Hi all,

Got myself an inexpensive acoustic to test the water and been using it for a few months to make sure that I wouldn't give up.

Looking for an electro acoustic now.

I've picked the following guitars, just need to decide on which one.

Epiphone AJ-100CE
Fender CD60-E
Jasmine JO-36CE
Washburn EA10
Washburn WD10SCE
CORT AF510E

I've only managed to find and hold the Cort and both Washburns - both of which felt nice in the hand. The rest would be online purchases

Any help?

Is there nowhere local you could go and have a try on them. Where are you in the country. I've only ever got one guitar online and that was for my lad (cheap 40 quid classical and it was shockingly very good) but I always prefer to try them first.

Never played that model of Fender but I've never been very impressed with any Fender acoustic I've ever tried. Polar opposite to their electrics.

What's your budget?
At a guess around £130-150 judging by the list.

Not to go on about Yamaha on this forum again (and again) but have you considered the Yamaha FG700S? Very capable guitar for the money and well reviewed. My wife has one and for the money it is a lovely bit of kit indeed. Certainly a worthy contender in your list IMO.

I agreed that Yamaha probably makes the best value for money acoustics at the lower end of the scale. A little high up Faith guitars are getting very good feedbacks.

Spend the extra and get a Yamaha APX500 or a Fender CD SCE series both around the £250 mark. I used an APX5 (model replaced by 500) in a live playing environment for years and it never missed a beat.

That extra money at this level makes a whole world of difference. Beyond this price though you then get diminishing returns and disproportioned improvements for the extra you spend until you then hit the £500+ mark.

Check out Crafter. They're a Korean (I think) brand who do very nice, relatively cheap, nicely toned acoustics. I've got one and I love it.

Otherwise, I would not buy a Yamaha. You'll realise after a few months that it's a piece of crap. They're literally painful to play.

Please, whatever you do, go and play the instrument before you buy it. You can't judge tone by appearance, and nor can you judge the feel of the instrument. At the very least, try the guitar in a shop and then buy it online.
