Just received it back today from a local guitar shop who I always use.

I asked for Drop C tuning so they reccomended 'Ernie Ball not even slinky strings', so I played the first three strings "ok that sounds odd"

Checked the tuning and its out straight away, so I try to tune it up... twice, everytime I tune one string another is out.

I'm obviously going to take it back tomorrow and say wtf, but does anyone know why its like this?

Its an ESP M400 btw.

Slipping at the headstock pegs due to poor string setup or old strings usually. Floyd rose too so obviously strings go out when you tune another string, i guess you know this though?

you need to wear/stretch in the strings whilst the trem is blocked before you get any chance of keeping the correct tuning.

tuning to dropD is no hassle at all with "normal" strings, unless you don't know how the floyd rose works properly

ok I shall go block my tremelo and wear/stretch the strings.

lols.

edit: meh, they tuned it to C instead of DropC :(

The joys of floating trems! Fixed bridges all the way for me, I had years of quibbles with Floyd style trems. Bleh.

Hope you get sorted anyhow. Do like I have on my Washburn, block the trem up with a couple of pieces of wood :D

Well it will be kept with the same gauge strings from now (12-56) :D So nextime I'm going to go off guides on youtube and try it myself.

I took it back today and he's gonna change it for me.

But yea I wish I had got the NT version although it doesn't look quite as nice and its £50 more

haha got it back today, im a moron for not trying it in the shop.

The bottom string is now G, either hes crap or he misheard me when I said CGCFAD. I havent touched the pegs yet, but what do I do to get that string to C without borking the whole lot?

make sure your machine head are tight... had weeks of issues with my old guitar cos it was cheap and the machine heads weren't tightend properly

How many winds do the strings have on the pegs? If it's only a couple or so then it's like to come out of tune.

Doesn't really matter on a locking nut. But i'd also disagree with what you have said there, I only use about two turns worth on a low E string, and gradually more on each of the higher strings.

More string on the tuning peg means more string to stretch in. I have done this for years and never had tuning issues.

I sorted it myself with a little patience and some youtubing :)

Stretched the strings a bit and just tuned it up another 3 times, finally using the fine tuners and the bridge actually came level, where before it was tilted back a fraction.

cheers.

Yeh, sorry maybe I should have been clearer - it depends on the guitar at the end of the day. If it's a cheapo then it naturally won't hold its tune unless you coil it round more whereas when you pay for a better quality guitar, it'll stay in tune longer.

I'd still disagree, you can have 2 winds or 10 winds on a cheap tuner and it wont stay in tune. it's nothing to do with how many winds you make. it's all to do with the gears.

I'll give a little nugget of advice, always tune up to the note! If you're aiming for E and you go slightly over don't just tune down to E and leave it. Detune it so it's lower than E and then back up so you hit E.

It's why it's called "tuning up"

Hey I played for over a year now and I didn't realise that! :) But I never tune down anyway, must be just a thing I figured out without realising..
