Guitarists: What are you currently learning?

For anyone who's interested:

On the FFAF song Roses for the dead, which i'm currently learning. I've come to the conclusion that it's much easier to play:

e|---------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------12------------|
G|------12-----11-----------------------11-12-|
D|----9------9-------9--12----9------9--------|
A|--7------7-------7--------7------7----------|
D|---------------------------------------------|

e|-------3------2----------------7-------2-3---|
B|---------------------3------------------------|
G|----------------------------------4-----------|
D|----5------5-------5--------5----------------|
A|--3------3-------3--------3--------3---------|
D|----------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------12------------|
G|------12-----11-----------------------11-12-|
D|----7------7-------7--12----7------7--------|
A|--5------5-------5--------5------5----------|
D|---------------------------------------------|

Rather than playing this, which is what most tabs suggest:

e|---------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------12------------|
G|------12-----11-----------------------11-12-|
D|----9------9-------9--12----9------9--------|
A|--7------7-------7--------7------7----------|
D|---------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------12------------|
G|------12-----11-------------------4---11-12-|
D|----5------5-------5--12----5---------------|
A|--3------3-------3--------3---------3-------|
D|---------------------------------------------|

e|---------------------------------------------|
B|-------------------------------12------------|
G|------12-----11-----------------------11-12-|
D|----7------7-------7--12----7------7--------|
A|--5------5-------5--------5------5----------|
D|---------------------------------------------|

It's still tricky but it makes it slightly easier.

- You could play the same as the 3-5 section on the 5-7 section but I think the 5-7 section is easier as it is.

Heh, I've been playing almost 3 years now. Fully self-taught :) The hardest thing for me I think was just forcing myself right at the beginning because it was so hard without guidance. I think the only let down with this is I might not be as technical as I could be. Oh, and if anyone cares, i'm getting better at the song in the OP :p The tempo is still a pain though.

Technical work is nice but only appeals to your peers. It's far more usefull for a wider audience to be able to play something simple perfectly than something technically superior where you just about scrape through. Tho when you write stuff the tendancy is to write one step down from your actual ability anyway.

The Who - Pinball wizard. one of the bands better suggestions.

I'm currently working my way through bryan adam's so far so good album, love most of the songs on that album and the guitar work is pretty nice nice. It's only love is such a fun song to play.
I am wanting to start to learn to play some shred style songs after seeing ArmyofHarmony video. Whats the best way to start with this kind of style?

And out of interst how many of you have double jointed fingures, i do and finding it a real pain with my pinky as it keeps locking out and as a result not really being able to use it that well.

I'm currently trying to do this sweepy thing I've made up. Yes, I got bitten by the bad taste bug too.

Play a major scale in chords acending. The idea is to playing that, with sweeping. This is the 6 string example (I find it easier than 5, odd!) Note, the g string notes you have to slide between! (On the E strings its a hammer on pull off). The idea is you slide to the next chord.

F sharp
---------------6-9-------------
-------------7-----7-----------
---------3-6--------6-3-------
-------4----------------4------
-----4--------------------4----
2-6------------------------6-2-

G sharp (minor)
--------------7-11-7----------
------------9--------9---------
--------4-8-----------8-4------
------6-------------------6-----
----6-----------------------6---
4-7--------------------------7-4

Etc!

Progress is slow, so no one best dare record a video or clip of this being done perfectly :p

Any ideas on how to do the diminished chord in a sweep? I can't get it to work nicely.

EDIT:
Oh and yeah, I've been trying to MONTHS and have got nowhere near perfect, so don't think its something I could easily whack out. On the other hand, don't say YOU can whack it out easily ;)

(Oh I lied, its easier with 5 string chords. Not as cool sounding mind!)
