Gulftown £885.99

Someone mentioned investment with regards to computer hardware?! You must be off your trolley unless you plan to keep it pristine with box n all until the year 2100, when it will be an antique.

PMSL!!!!!!!

Love it.

I am hurting with this descision making lark, I am about to place my order for my 2010 build.
This Chip has thrown a spanner in the works.

I know the 6 core has a date but anyone got a more accurate date for the 8 core?

I was thinking about getting a 930 but now am considering the 980x :)

As far as I know there is no 8 core gulftown chip planned, this is as fast as it gets until some distance into sandy bridge. There may well be an 8 core xeon chip planned which I'm unaware of.

This will be the fastest single socket option available for quite a long time. It's priced appropriately, considering that this is far better value than the 975 was. I hope I can find the funds for one.

This processor is not aimed at benchmarkers, there really aren't enough of them to justify making a processor on their behalf. This is spot on for workstations, and there are a lot of those. Multiple socket will be better in most cases, but then this is a lot cheaper.

Rumour is there's a more consumer-focused variant of Gulftown coming later in the year, possibly called the 970. If you really must have six cores then wait for that and clock the nuts off it, then laugh at the loons who bought a 980X :)
