Strange, I thought it was named after the Gumball Rally film which came out 4 or 5yrs before The Cannonball Run. Better cars and film too imho, plus Gary Busey
The Gumball rally film and the Cannonball Run films are both based on the real Cannonball run coast to coast race that took place in the USA back in the 70's. The new race is named after the Gumball film because the Canonball race creator wouldn't let them use that name.
I can see a pattern forming here we are in fact all old and **** heads
If the hat fits, though I believe William and Thomas have yet to hit the serious 40's where chins are added and hair goes from the right places and ends up in the wrong places.

Im thinking we should rent something special, or we all agree to chip in and drive mine but buy it if we crash.
Buy an old Scania or Volvo, paint it up in OC/UK colours (with a bit of helpful sponsorship from Spie!) and do it in a truck.
That would be special. (In a slightly mad way)
And no I'm not even trying to consider the fuel required for the trip!
But if a 6 numbered lottery win fell into my lap, I'd certainly do it myself!
I'd have a Scania 730, with modified gearing, and have a trailer behind me kitted out as my mobile home!
One day, I may get a life...........
