gumtree

I'm trying to sell a few relatively cheap items on there and lots of timewasters. I'm selling my sons bike for 15 quid, 1 guy emailed to ask if it was still for sale then ghosted me.

Two of my best timewasters:

I was selling a road bike for £100 no offers and one bloke got in touch and said if you bring it to Glasgow I'll give you £50 :)

We were getting rid of a pristine condition bed settee for free but I put 'Must go today'.
One woman got in touch and said she can come around in 5 hours so I said yes and then had at least another 10 wanting it.
Seven hours later I got in touch asking if she was coming and she said "If you bring it to Crewe (15 miles away) and give me £20 I'll take it off your hands" :)

See this kind of stuff quite a bit when friends are trying to get rid of stuff for free on Facebook, etc.

I remember one of my cousins was getting rid of a car once, clearly states it is undriveable with pictures showing why (so basically looking for someone to collect who could trailer it)... first reply is someone asking if they (the person collecting) would be able to drive it whatever distance it was back to where they live...

Why do people put stuff on Gumtree and don't reply?
Within minutes on Friday I had an alert for a piece of musical equipment, I have the money, the seller only lives 9 miles away and a good chance with this equipment I might know them.
I emailed within 5 minutes and I've sent another two but nothing.

Sometimes I've replied late to potential buyers because I;ve been working that day and not had a minute to check E-Mails / Gumtree app.

It was a scam.
I was on Marketplace looking for the product and somebody had posted a warning with all the same red alerts.
On Facebook the bloke had got buyers to send a £40 deposit then cut them off, on Gumtree because I said I lived 5 mile away he wouldn't respond.
Yesterday I reported to Gumtree and they confirmed it was a scam and removed it.
