Gun calibres, need an explanation

You can use NATO ball in civi rifles, power really isnt an issue as the case can only hold so much propellant, its safe to say a .223 rife will be fine with mil spec ammo as long as its chambered correctly (5.56x45)

I put 100's of rounds of mil spec ammo thru my club guns without a problem.

This man speaks the truth. There is no problem firing NATO rounds through civilian rifles. To all intents and purposes, they are identical.

I've heard of a guy (and seen the damage done to steel) putting a 7.62mm NATO round through a .303SMLE - unsure whether it had been re-barrelled, just saw the neat hole in 4mm steel....

Cant say id have fancied giving it a crack though - though I wanna own a de-act SMLE. One day...

Just as a by-the-way, that is fully active. Meaning that if I put one of my armor piercing rounds in the clip, jacked the bolt, and pulled the trigger, I'm going to put a 1/3" diameter hole in WHATEVER it is pointing at!!!

Oh, and to the original poster, if you need some pictures of .303 ammo, let me know. I've got about 200 rounds out in the garage. I can get you pics of both AP and ball.

Is that the one you pointed at that tool who followed you home in the snow?

Tad short on cash for the real thing, though I might one day. Would love to borrow one at a full bore club sometime :p

That is one and only!! :)

Sporterised Mk IV SMLE .303 with the narrowed-down 5 shot clip, hand-turned shortened barrel, peep sights from a Browning .30-06 of some sort, butt extensions custom made by my father, he also did the custom sling and swivels, and he also did the stock work to turn it into what it is.

Lovely rifle that balances out about 4 inches behind the front hand position. Comes STRAIGHT back (no upwards pull) when you fire it. Bolt action is as smooth as a baby's bottom, and I've NEVER had even the slightest hint of a hang fire or misfire!!
