Gutted :(....

I use a ups because my house has awful wiring (well the wiring is good but the fuses are all wrong apparently) bought a ups because I was fed up with power outages. Works pretty well.

Got any facts and links to go with?
Most people do believe in hearsay and myths. Same reasons why cigarettes were smoked to "increase" health. Advertising said so. A majority automatically believed.

An AC power utility demonstrates the 'smoothed' output from a UPS at:
http://www.duke-energy.com/indiana-business/products/power-quality/tech-tip-03.asp

UPS manufacturers quietly recommend not connecting a power strip protector to the UPS output. And avoid saying why. Power from a UPS in battery backup mode can be so 'dirty' as to harm that strip protector.

A reply from APC was posted in QuaterlySoftwareSociety entitled "UPS or no UPS" at:
APC's Back-UPS line is designed for use with Computer-type loads only. They are not designed to be used with motor loads such as fish filters, air conditioning units, space heaters, vacuum cleaners or any other machinery.

One potential issue is the inrush current draw for a motor. It can easily overload a Back-Ups UPS model. Secondly, these models of UPSs output a Stepped-Approximated sine wave when on battery. This waveshape, while ideal for computer-type equipment, is not particularly compatible with most motor loads. The result may be that motors run very slowly, erratically, or not at all when the UPS is on battery.

By preaching to consumers who ignore facts, many UPS manufacturers will call that 'dirty' output a sine wave output. They did not lie. View the AC power utility's waveforms. From high school math, those are a sum of pure sine waves. Naive consumers then make assumptions to recommend a UPS even for lightning protection.

Once again thank you sooo much for the help! I can confirm it's the PSU when I connected the Paperclip it's doing the same thing as it was when hooked up spins for a second then cuts out. I'll get it sent back to Overclockers asap.

Once again thank you <3

When my PSU went pop, it took out my Mobo,
A PSU that damages a motherboard was defective when purchased. Long before the original IBM PC, a power supply could not damage the load.

However, many buy supplies only on watts and quid. Creating a market ripe for dumping. Making profitable supplies that were unacceptable even 40 years ago. That purchase decision would explain how a PSU can cause motherboard damage.

I'm back! Finally got my replacement PSU and PC powered up first try.

Next problem :(

When I booted up, the PC is coming up with a "Bios has been reset - Please decide how to continue"

"Load optimized defaults then boot"
"Load optimized defaults then reboot"
"Enter Bios"

But it seems the keyboard is non responsive. It lights up and everything so I know it's getting power also I have plugged it into my laptop and keyboard seems to be fine.

Once again guys, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Incoming 3 methods to reset bios. Personally, just google "bios reset" and follow the most likely looking instructions :)

do a cmos reset again. also try plugging the keyboard into diff usb ports! some work in bios and some dont on some mobos! wierd...

I'm currently using a Qpad MK-85 LED Pro Backlit Mechanical Gaming Keyboard over £130 cant load up bios!

Just went to Asda and bought one for £5 and it worked. :)

Once again thank you all <3

I have had two do the same thing in the space of a month. First was an Antec Truepower. Second was a Bequiet. This time I might try a different brand. I was tempted by the same psu until I saw this thread... I'm hoping it's a one off. Third time lucky for me I guess :/
