Well got a problem atm, I had the beta version of Vista installed and had a problem in the fact that everytime I started my pc i had to have a bootable cd in. I.E windows disk or motherboard disc otherwise it wouldn't boot the HDD.

Now I reinstall XP media centre edition and I am still having this problem, as long as I have a windows cd in it boots fine though. But i dont wanna have to keep booting with a windows cd.

Do you guys know what could've happened to my HDD? Do you think that the vista install could've messed the HDD completely? I've reformatted about 6 times atm and it still has this problem any help would be appreciated.

yeah tried that its the fact that atm, even when the boot priority is set to just the HDD, if it hasn't got a disc in, it says invalid system disc blah blah blah like there is no OS installed.

Have you tried using your Windows disk, go to the recovery console and type.

'fixmbr'

and then...

'fixboot'

And restart? This should hopefully solve it?

Cheers,
James

Just tried that, and nope still not having it when booting just form the HDD, with a bootable disk in it's fine. :S think the HDD might have gone kapput?

Tried a BIOS reset and/or moving the HDD drive to a different IDE channel (if it's IDE of course).

Unlikely, but worth doing before condemning the drive!

Cheers,
James
