gym routine

Hi guys once I've done the 5 by 5 workout for around 9 months someone commented to do 3 months toning out and having a ratio of 3:1 with 5 by 5 and toning. What's the best exercise/workout to tone muscles?
 
If you are talking about muscle tone, you are in fact talking about its state of contraction.

What I think you are getting at is muscle DEFINITION which is just a by-product of fat level and perfusion state.

What you need to do is... Carry on with your existing workout and eat slightly less (be in a calorie deficit). I have no idea what this 3:1 ratio is, however?
 
God I hate the word 'tone'... As mrthingyx states, its a term misused to describe definition, which is attained by proper dieting to reach lower body fats. Best way, imo, to lose weight is to keep doing your existing workout (compounds are best for maintaining muscle mass on a cut), whilst eating at a calorific deficit - 10-15% less than your BMR, for example.
