hi guys i just bought a h10 it comes with window media 10 is this the best system for this unit or will it run on another ? i have used cheaper units with out operating software just d/loaded from pc onto mp3 , so any advice would be welcome or do i have to use wm10. :p

It will show up as an MTP device in you my computer allowing for drag and drop, or you can get a lot of player to detect the player and automatically transfer music for you. Personally i find using WMP10 the easiest option as it does it all for you.

Does that mean you can't drag and drop files in say Win2k as MTP is an XP protocol?

boot it in emergency mode. if your O.S supports removable USB drives it'll work.

remove battery
plug in cable
hold 'O'
turn unit in.
bingo;)

I like using it that way because more than anything, its faster than MTP. just remember if you want the music to show up in the playlists on the player you have to make your music read-only and hidden (by right clicking on files or folders) :)

Well I know Win2K supports removable drives but why the booting in emergency mode?

Does this mean I need to transfer files to the H10 like that under win2k or can I plug it in like any other USB drive and drag drop as Win2k wont try to process device as a MTP device.

well unless you can get MTP work then yeah i think thats the only way. It's all i ever use anyway as i said, its the fastest. just drag it from the music on my pc straight to the H10. so easy:)

iv loaded wm10 on the pc the manual says that it would only work with windows but that may be a red herring , on a side issue how do you get the file names on the h10 as i do a load of say 180 songs and there is no info as to what it is ? :)

if i load tracks onto the h10 and go to play them all i can see is a track number and length of song but no artist name or track name any ideas

THat what i thought you meant but i held off sayign incase i was wrong.

You need to manually edit the ID3 tags in your WMP10. Select the song you want then right click and select the 'advanced track editor' button and then under the two atist/track tabs at the top enter the correct song information. It is time consuming, but its something you'll have to do if its not already done. Its easier done in winamp to be honest.
