My sister's just got herself a 6GB H10 Photo and as much as it looks nice, it doesn't work. It just won't connect to the PC at all and I've tried everything. There seems to be a way of getting it to connect by holding a button down whilst turning it on, but when you transfer the music onto it that way, it doesn't list it under the music section of the player so you can't search by artist/album/etc.

Anyone else had the same problem and found a way around it? I can't believe iriver would sell a product that's so rubbish.

I'll try and help but I'm real tired so I'll be quick. It is a good player, just need some patience with it. The method you mention with the button is known as the 'UMS trick' - basically turning your H10 into a portable storage device in windows.

The way I add my music to the H10 is via drag and drop using the ums trick. You've mentioned that you've added tunes to the player but its not listed in the main music browser. Whats happening here is the database needs updating I'd guess. So theres two things to do now.

1. Goto Settings/Extra and scroll down to Database refresh and try that.
If that doesn't work...
2. Download EasyH10 which is basically essential. EasyH10 requres that the player be connected via ums trick, only then will the program see the H10.

Once you've got the program running, just make sure you've got the correct details in the 'H10 model' box, and make sure the Processing section has Rebuild ticked. Hit Ok and it should rebuild the database.

I use EasyH10 everytime I add a couple of new tracks (rarely now since mine is almost full), so the album list thing stays updated. I don't really like the Browser feature much so I don't use that.

Other users will possibly reccommend windows media player 10 - I've no idea how one uses that since I hate that app. Hope this helps out!

when operating normal the player is in MTP mode. You HAVE to have media player 10 installed to get it working otherwise it will not be picked up by windows.

in emergency mode (holding down the 'O' at boot up) it works fine as you've said. To access the music with the player you can just use the browser mode, or if you want the music to appear in the music menu, it's as simple as right clicking the music folder when in emergency mode, select properties then select read-only and hidden. Hit ok and when its done reboot the player.

sorted. You dont need any drivers, or extra programs.

The 'read only' and 'hidden' trick with the files didn't sort out the music listings for me. Using EasyH10 to rebuild the database works though. Any ideas why this thing won't connect via MTP? I even installed their WMP10 over my own copy to see if that'd detect it, but no such luck.

Although I hate WMP10, so using the UMS trick is probably better for me and my sister anyway.
