Hi All.

Looking at putting my new H100i into my corsair air 540 and the position to which to put it is puzzling me...

I see a lot of people put it in the roof of the case but my logical thinking is would it not be better suited in the front?

Front Position:

Fans pull in fresh air over the rad and is expelled through the top of the case..

Top Position:

Fans are pulling already warm air through the Rad thus not cooling as effectively..

would I Be right in the above? or am I missing the point? Surly you want cooling fresh air being pulled over the rad not already heated hot air?

Why would the air inside the case be warm?
The inside of my case is the same as the outside because the CPU is being water cooled, therefore not dumping any heat inside the case.

If you have the air going through the rad, it turns the inside of the case into a mini oven heating up everything.

If youve got cards which vent heat into the case then yes. You dont want to use the h100i as an intake though unless youve got a dust filter in frront of it

corsair recommend installing the fans as intakes anyway, even if it's roof mounted.
my brother mounted his at the front and it works well. there is an exhaust fan at the back of the case to vent hot air.
as his case has 2 front fans, they have dust filters anyway. only been installed a week or so but temps are good and case temps are low too. lower than the old air cpu cooler.

I have no choice but to mount mine on roof of case
The are acting as exhaust
My thinking is this

When I max out my cpu my gfx cards are inactive (transcoding, running code) therefore the heat in case isn't so important
If I'm gaming the gpus are way more important to cool than the cpu

In essence I do not want any extra heat pushed into the case. Therfore I don't want them pulling air past the rad into the case
