H60/80/100 worth it?

I'm looking into replacing my FP13 so I can take piece of mind if and when I decide to take my 2600k a little higher. So far I have it at 4.7ghz (100x47) though voltages are all auto and seem a little high, occasionally hitting 1.4v, I'll address that issue later and try set a manual lower stable voltage.

A large HSF setup (DH-14/silver-arrow) is out of the question as I have high heatsink memory, so my next choice is the corsair sealed loop coolers, I'd just like to know are they worth it? How effective are they with a high SB overclock?

I have done some reading but I'd prefer some 'real world' temps from OCUK members and their experiences with the coolers.

I should be coming into a bit of money shortly (work owe me £1400), so expense is not really an issue, though I would rather not for example splash out on an H80 if the H60 is just as good...A new case may also be on the cards :D

Hmm I completely overlooked the kuhler, my choice just got harder. I'm seeing some people with 5ghz SB's only hitting high 60's on the H80 while some others with significantly lower clocks are hitting mid 70's with them. I'm going to look over some kuhler reviews vs the corsair series now :)

Edit: one review showed a 2600k @ 5.2ghz, 59c for the kuhler, 58c for the H80 under full load.

Wouldn't it just be easier just to get low profile memory and a D14 cooler?
It might be easier, but costs more, A d14 with 8GB XMS3 comes in at nearly £120 delivered, the H80/920 and H100 are £80 and £100 Respectably - Thanks for reminding me of that option though :)

i have an h100, please may i suggest

this h3o wc kit

and case wise

this

i have just bought the top H3O kit and will post my non scientific stats on the H100 and the H3O

i have the the h100 stats if your interested?

Yes please! I Think the H100 would fit in my current gamma case, as for the 650D how does it stack up against the 600T? both are corsair and in the same price range, I had been eyeing up the white 600T with side window, but I'm open to compromise. I would rather start out things with a sealed loop system before delving into the world of custom loops, but I love how OCUK have a starter kit, and its fairly cheap compared to some I've seen.

What about rad fans? I know the corsair ones are pretty much a no go, though I hear allot of suggestions about using the 1850rpm gentle typhoons, a good option? some comments suggest those GT's are better as push rather than pull fans, if so any other recommendations?

Those temps are really nice, @ 4.7 with my FP13 I have some cores pushing into the low 70s so thats 10+c with the H100 already with your temps. Ahhh vipers I keep forgetting about Vipers! Another fan that seems to come up allot is the Akasa Apaches, anyone had experience with these?

Edit: are those idle temps with speedstep disabled?

Thats some impressive temps for those speeds, is the OC more stable with speedstep disabled?

I'm leaning closer and closer to the H100 with a 600T white.

I'll take a look hyburnate thanks. After some rough measuring the 650D might just be a little too long for my desk of all things :p though it totally depends how deep those feet are, as long as I can get those on I should be fine.

Is there plenty of room along the top for the 240 rad with 4 fans in push/pull without external fan mounting?

Edit, Found the evoss build log, very very impressed, I'll rip my desk apart tomorrow and measure everything properly, 650D does indeed look superior to the 600T on closer inspection.

Oh OCUK you know how to make life difficult:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18316771

Essentially a H60 without corsair branding, perhaps it would be worth grabbing one of those + 2 silent eagle 2000's and seeing how I get on rather than jumping in at the deep end with a new case + H100.

A quick question on fan direction on rads, would pulling cool air into the case through the rad and exhaust through the top 2 140mm fans be the best layout? I've seen some conflicting reports on what produces the best temps...

Thanks speed, the ambiant temps in my gaming room are usually pretty low (sub 20c) too so I may just stump up for one with the silent eagles, though I'm open to change on the fans, I see allot of people using the apache fans so their another option.

The case I have atm has (as is) 1x120mm rear exhaust, 2x140mm top exhaust, my logical way of looking at it would be to pull cool air from the rear 120mm and leave the 140mm's exhausting.

I think I'll go with 2 Apache blacks, and a H80. First I need to measure my current case to check for rad clearance as I might need to swap out one of the 140 exhaust fans for a 120.

If this setup is good enough I'll put out for the H100 with a 650D/600T once my employers cough up the cash I'm owed :D

Ok I'll throw in a tube of MX-4 too just for good measure, if the supplied compound isn't upto much at least I know I'll have a tube kicking about to replace it with :)

£133 delivered, not too bad at all :D

Edit: sorry £122, still had a silent eagle in my basket :p I'll order in the morning so I can have a better idea of when the stuff will get delivered.

Ahh I'll give that a blast sometime this week. Going to try at first with the stock corsair compound, then if needs be some MX-4 and/or some of that IC Diamond - it better be good at £13 a tube!

Edit after reading some reviews I might just skip straight to the IC Diamond.

Ok just called in a few favours and now have my hands on a H80, nothing else at the moment so everything will be going in as stock (Compound/fans) for now, will order some IC Diamond 24-carat along with the 120mm apache blacks, I'll shove up some pics later of the installation if I haven't died from man-flu :D

Its in, word to the wise, never ever ever ever ever try fit an H80 into an NZXT Gamma case, I'll explain with pictures later today, but its in after 2 hours, idle temps are currently sitting at 29c on all cores, though the heatings on full whack today so room temp is floating about 22-24c. At idle the fans (stock) are quiet, just going to put it on load and sit in another room as at full tilt those fans sound like a jet fighter taking off.

Edit: Somethings gone wrong, 7mins of prime and I'm hitting 80c, but the fan speed doesn't seem to be increasing?

It comes with a 3pin for the CPU_FAN header and A molex connector for powering it, both are plugged in and the pump is reporting back at just over 2000rpm, which according to corsair is about right.

I Think/hope I just need to manually set the fan profile by pushing the button on the block to high and then let the pump regulate from there. I though the block may do this on its own (wouldn't that make sense?) but apparently no, you need to splash out on a corsair Link kit for it to do such a thing.

I'll report back soon!

Damn thing! Its set from stock in 'manual' mode for corsair Link (which isn't even available yet!) set the profile upto high performance mode now load temps are floating in the low 60s. Seemingly the fan speed increases due to water temp rather than CPU temp. It would have been nice for corsair to include a little manual explaining all of this instead of me spending an hour digging around forums to found out why!

Core2 seems to be taking the brunt of the higher temps so perhaps still need a reseat, but it can wait until the IC diamond and apaches get here.

Oh while I remember I need a single high flow 140mm fan, any recommendations? As you'll see from the pics I put up later I've dropped from 3 exhaust fans to just 1 now!

Pictures incoming:

First here we see the start of the poor NZXT gamma design, next to no clearance between the rear 120mm and the first top 140mm:
IMAG0048.jpg

Fail number 2, the CPU backplate cut out on the back leaves 2 of the 4 pin holes covered, I had to remedy this by gently bending out the rear portion and slip the bracket in.
IMAG0049.jpg

Compound left over from the FP13 - not bad coverage.
IMAG0050.jpg

A nice clean 2600k
IMAG0051.jpg

H80 Rad and fans in, notice how close the rad sits to the edge of the case.
IMAG0052.jpg

The final fail, the side pannel guide rail was trying to crush the rad, had to do a quick dirty fix as I have little tools with me at home:
IMAG0053.jpg

All in all avoid this case, a 20min fit turned out to take nearly 2 hours. From other advise on this thread I will be shelling out for probably a 650d.

@Leeroy which cases did you use to fit those H80s?

Yeah I got the temp thing sorted out, the button on the cpu block was set to manual mode (for corsair link) rather than full whack. Bumped it up now my prime temps are floating around 59-63c @ 4.7ghz. The provided TIM is a quite thin layer, well in comparison to whats on the FP13 I removed.

Ahh I didn't know I didn't need the 3pin connecter in, though to avoid any system errors I'll leave it in until the 2 apaches get here (4pin pwm) and I'll put those straight into CPU_FAN and CPU_FAN1 headers rather than the CPU block. Give me a little more control over the fans.

When applying the IC Diamond do you recommend giving it a thin spread or pea size in the middle? its been years since I've manually applied any thermal compound!

Antec 1200 - Nice case, though at a push I only have space for a midi case hense why I'm looking at 650d/600t, I'd be happy to take onboard any other recommendations though :)

Thanks for the persistance dave, but I made a few calls yesterday and managed to get an H80 tax free! I know I could/should have priced it up better but the sealed loop seemed the more appealing option. When it comes to that time to make an IB build the whole thing will be getting built around a silverarrow...

Yeah the corsair fans are really really loud, don't get me wrong unless your doing heavy gaming or stress testing its near silent, but as soon as that water temp hits 40c its quite deafening. From reading about it seems either 1850rpm typhoons or apache blacks are the best replacement fans, high air flow, low noise.

All in all this new cooling solution will end up costing about £100, £61 for the H80, £30 on apache blacks and £12 on IC diamond.

Edit: what voltages are you using for 5ghz? if my face stops leaking today I might give it a whirl.
