Hi all,

Looking at getting a new case and CPU cooler as my current one works with my PSU (Fanless NT06-E).

I've been looking at the Hydro setups and like the look of the H80i. I've read that people say the stock fans are noisy?

I'm not looking to overclock my PC so is this a waste on me?

Are they're any alternatives? Also see a lot of D14's which I've been told are on par with the H80i's.

Thanks for any help given :)

The top coolers are only able to differentiate themselves and make a real difference with higher voltages and higher temperatures. If you are not overclocking, then it comes down to personal choice.

Either an NH-D14 and use the resistors to limit the fan speed to 900rpm (instead of 1200/1300) or the H80i on its low settings will give comparable performance and very quiet usage.

If you don't like the stock fans, the Noctua F12s perform really well on all-in-one coolers.

Thanks for the reply.

Does the H80i have a fan controller setting then? I've seen some cases now that come with a fan switch built in ... amazing feature if you ask me!

Google "H80 problems" and see how many hits you get.

Google "NH-D14 problems" and see if you can find any.

Than decide if you want a cooler that has a history of problems or a cooler that has no problems. ;)

Yes it does. You use Corsair Link 2 to control fan speed and LED light, but while it's a awesome cooler and does work very well It does have it's share of problems. If you buy though you can always RMA and get another.

Only because you ask.. And that's Bing, not Google. :D

I was referring to actual problems with cooler, not overclocking or RAM clearance.

H80 can have problems fitting in some cases too. But that's not pump failure and/or excessive pump noise problems.

Yes, there are many H80 users who have had no problems. But there are a much higher percentage of H80 users than NH-D14 users who have had problems... and both cooler have been sold and used by hundreds of people... probably more NH-D14's than H80's

What cpu are you running? Is it overclocked? If its a Ivybridge at stock or even a slight oc then a H60 with single fan is perfectly adequte. I have one from overclockers with a fan i already have and its fine. Temps are not an issue even in a cube case. I would get one with a nice silent fan and you are good to go. :)

Thanks for the info guys - I will take it all on board.

I'm running a i5 3570k @ 3.6Ghz (Not overclocked) I don't think I will overclock if I'm honest but would like the option to do so. (Ivy)

Just watched a video on the Phanteks PH-TC14PE.

What's the main differences between the H series coolers?

Seems like the NH-D14 cools better than the liquid cooled setups. If I went for the H series, I would probably want to replace the fans with Noctua ones anyway so in the long run, this would be expensive!

Probably consider the NH-D14 and be done with it! :)

In that case then i would just get a H60 and a nice quiet fan the only differences really between that and the H80i is that its got a slimmer RAD and doesnt have the USB interface thingy. I am using one with a silent fan with a I5-2500 and the temps are perfect and my setup is silent. A friend has the same in a cube case with a 3770K @ 4Ghz and it is perfectly quiet and the temps are good. The NH-D14 is silly big... HUGE!

What does the USB interface allow you to do?

NH-D14 is a great cooler.
Others to consider are TC14PE, Silver Arrow SB-E, Alpenfohn K2, HE02, BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2 are all very similar in size and performance. You need medium or low profile RAM with them. SA SB-E is 15mm wider than the rest. There are also some very good single core cooler like Archon SB-E X2, Prolimatech Armagedden & Megahalems, Alpenfohn Matterhorn & Himalaya, Phanteks TC12DX, etc. Prices range from £30-70.00 Just check any you are interested in to be sure they fit your mobo and case.

Thanks for all the info mate.

I'm probably going to consider the H80i or the NH-D14 if I'm honest :)

Like I say I only had the H50 which is far off the performance of the h80, as the h80 has a thicker radiator.

The D14 is so awesome though. :)

Then search this forum for all of Doyll's posts and realise that he has a major chip on his shoulder when it comes to Corsair.

They must have stolen his blanky.

It's all well and good searching the internet for the issues that people may have faced with products. You're always going to find something. However what you won't find is all those users whom have the product and it works fine and they've had no issue purely because they've no need to post about it.
