Hack and Slash games

A proper hack and slash was 'Die by the sword'. Great game, you could hack peoples arms and legs off and beat them with them!

I used to enjoy playing my mate over LAN, think it was one of the first games where you could move the mouse up and the sword would follow your mouse trail

Great fun, but difficult to master. Also doesn't seem that big a game if you're good at the combat, or resort to using god mode cheat ;)

This screen shot is taken from beginning. And I'm using a mod that wraps game in DirectX 9, otherwise the graphics are even more shocking.

Check out forum at Good Old Games for name of mod.

diablo 1 and 2 + lod are a must.

dungeon seige 1 is quite good, i never got into the 2nd though.

sacred if u have xp, i couldnt get it to work on vista.

arpgs I'd recommend (and this is the main type of game I play)

Modern ones

Sacred 2 (and expansion) - lots of variation in the way you can build characters (more so imho than Diablo 1 +2 and certainly more than Torchlight) -
It's buggy but definitely worth it on a XP and Vista machine. (win 7 esp win 7 64 has issues we need playing about with to get around which is possible as I use it in win 7 64 myself) -

Torchlight - great game but probably not as expansive as the above

Older games

Titan Quest and expansion (possibly the game with the biggest character build options out of the ones mentioned here)

Sacred 1

Diablo 1 and 2

and finally Dungeon siege 1 + 2 if you like an arpg that's party based
