right i work at tesco one eve a week as a student.
not only do they always short staff us rediculusly on trolleys, now 3 yes 3 out of the flood lights in the carpark work!! bare in mind it is an extra store so its biiiiiiiig. its almost pitch black out there and im still expected to work. they have even been broken for 3 weeks now!!

Surely this is illegal as there must be some rule against working light conditions. Just think if a customer gets hit by a car and claims off tesco they'l be liable for thousands! I no for a fact that if i get injured due to it being too dark there will be trouble.

To top it all off there are loads of rude boy chavs who like to sit on the carpark wheelspinning etc. Also there is a sex offender on the loose in the local area who strieks outside the union, but this carparks surely a likely spot for an attack.

any thoughts on this?

Or Sainsburys in Stoke! I can safely attest to the fact that all their lights work and there no chavvy types on the car park.

lol i dont go stoke its right run down :p except from the OC shop of course I go there sometimes.

Rebelious whats the front end wage?? i will have been ther a year next month and I think i should get 6.01 an hour then

find out who your health and safety rep is and complain to them about it.

Ive just been made a health and safety rep at work and i reported that the car park was unlit and dangerous, a week later we had a flood light fitted.

If that doesnt work, and there are no CCTV cameras, hobble into the store half way through your shift and tell your boss youve had an accident. They will have to write it in the accident book and pass that on to your health and safety manager. Tell them that you tripped over a curb or stumbled in a pot hole (if there is any) due to it being too dark.

I know that i wrong but in most cases companies wont do anything until its too late, we've only just got PPE for cleaning up battery spills, pity we didnt have them when i got battery acid in my eye. Its better to fib and get something done now, then wait until its a customer that goes over. An old granny with a busted hip would not be good for business.

EDIT: ive just come back from Tescos in newcastle under lyme, the one opposite halfords/macdonalds (i think pet city may still be there). That Tesco was ok apart from the remodelling going on!

...please tell me you're not at the Longton Tesco! Longton is even worse than Stoke!

i switch between uttoxeter (home) and loughborough (uni). The one with the problem is lboro

God no i wouldnt go longton id have my wheels stolen! :p

ive told the manager several times its dangerous. Even a car crash in the carpark could be claimed off tesco if there is insuffiecient lighting (welltheres none)

EDIT: even the mobile flood light with generator round the back near the staff entrance has run out of fuel and has stopped working. they are useless

Tell the press, the more bad reputation Tesco get the better for us all!

why? just a grudge or some juicy gossip? :)

i think the base rate for front end is about 50p more than everything else if you're a GA. I did trolleys at a tesco back home for the last 2 summers, can't say I'd fancy doing it all year round though. My flatmate (and ex) has been working for Tesco for 3years now.
