£10 says someone he knows put a keylogger on his laptop, flatmate, girlfriend etc.

Any other forms of "hacking" just doesn't make sense, you're facebook/email isn't important to a stranger.

It was definitley done the way ubersonic describes, this person would have that info, mcast you couldnt be anymore incorrect paypal me the £10. Most people in here got the fact that this person is known to us and somehow that fact managed to slip through for you

I had the same thing about 9-10 years ago on msn, some guy was asking me weird questions (but making them seem innocent) and got my secret question answer. I was very confused until I realised! Ever since then my secret questions aren't even real answers but I still know what the answers are

So its happened again, same person and I would like to figure out how they did it if possible

First off the Hotmail account was deleted prior to which the password was changed and the secret question was changed to something this person would not be able to guess. They somehow re-opened the account and gained control of it sending out emails one of which was sent to a new account that was set up to replace the Hotmail acount, how did the person open the Hotmail account gain control of it and email the new address even if there was no trace of the new account in the Hotmail account?

I'm guessing you dont need to know the secret question to reset the password you just need to know a certain amount of information about the account

Its worth mentioning they attempted to gain access to Facebook but could not due to the extra security thats been added since last time with thanks to above people that mentioned it

Have you tried logging in to the Facebook account after retrieving it, and seeing what location they've tracked the last logged in IP to? Although not always 100% accurate and presuming the person is not using a proxy, VPN or using some other way of hiding their identity, if the location is (or near to) the location to where you're living, then perhaps they know you quite well and are guessing your reset answers (although, they don't have to know you quite well... they can gain a lot of information from you just based on your Facebook activity, e.g. likes).

You may also have a keylogger or 'password stealer' (whatever you want to call it) on your computer, and they're just getting your password over and over again.

I was "hacked" into my "freind's" hotmail account. His questions he used where stupidly easy to guess. Name of dog, school etc.

Cba to read through. But here's what I would do!.

Firstly, scan your pc/laptop for viri/key loggers. Ask in the windows sub forum for the best way there.

Your fb account will be connected to an email address. Change both password, your email address might well be linked to another email addy (when you request a new password for your email addy, where is it sent? - change the password for that one too!.. And so on down the line, until they're ALL changed..), then be careful, don't input it int any 3rd part sites, don't use any strange computers, regardless of how friendly. And see how it goes.

Secure the email.
Then secure the FB.
Add mobile authentication if possible.

I like for my secret questions to be are verbose as possible, make your own one and don't set "place of birth" make it "0,0,0" change it to something only YOU get, another layer of silly security I guess
