Hi all,

Had a bike crash on sunday, I'll post a thread with all the details once insurance is sorted.

However I just want to make sure I've done everything I'm suposed to do. I have TPFT insurance. The bike was recovered to a holding yard, and ive got that back at my house now. Ive notified insurance who are sending a claim form, and have got incident numbers and police officer names, as I was not in a state to get witness details at the scene. I'll be taking the bike to a mechanics tomorrow to get it assesed.

Is there anythign else I need to do? As far as I can see, once its been assesed I need to wait for the insurance companies to work out who was at fault. I'm in the dark mostly however, as I wasnt able to talk to anyone at the scene - will the police need to interview me? Will I find out what all the witnesses said? Do I wait for the police to contact me?

thanks for any advice,

Loz

Speak to your insurance company.

They will be able to help you with any questions, thats what they are there for, and what you pay for.

Sounds to me like more than your average bumper scraper.... If thats the case I doubt if anyone here is qualified to give you advice, and it might be leaning towards legal advice which is not allowed on these forums.

When this happened to me is was taken to small claims court as the taxi driver who blatantly ran right over me was at fault, but obviously denied it. But at the time the police wer not involved and I did end up fighting with the other two taxi drivers that turned up. It still went in my favour however. The legal side of things then recovered any repair costs.

When fault was admitted by a guy who wrote me off, the police were called and they were the ones who decided who was at fault there and then, even though he admitted at the scene. The insurance companies (Equity Redstar (mine) and Norwich Union (his) then handled the vehicle loss, and earnings and equipment + recovery losses were handled by the legal side and his insurance company.

I was TPFT both times, and I found the legal assistance indispensible and found myself in pocket out of the ordeal. Although the first incedent took nearly a year to get into small claims, so I was out of pocket for repairs all that time.

If he is TPFT, I doubt they are interested in fighting his corner :(

Mine seemed to be happy enough to help me out.

In fact, I need to find out what's happening with that. Haven't heard anything in a while.

Right, bikes been to mechanics and got thier verdict on it, I guess i now need to get that in writing and send it off to the insurance company who will refer me to a solicitor. Right?

Have you asked your insurance company?
