Firstly I would just like to say that the problem I was having has been fixed, but I dont understand why it is.

Basically I was having the same problem as this fella

Here

Although I didnt even need to do a /rebuild. All I did was /chkdsk on all my drives and restarted. To my shock its like nothing ever happened.

My questions is this, its obviously something to do with the HDD, but why does it happen? It cant be anything too serious or I would have lost some informaton somewhere. How does just checking the drive suddenly make it work again?

If I ever have problems with my PC Id like to know why it happens so I can prevent it from happening.

Please someone shed some light on this please. Is it due to overheating? or just a random hick-up with the drive? confusion

Sounds like your PC BSODed during the boot process and auto restarted. If it does that then it's an utter pain to diagnose because you never actually see the BSOD error. You can turn off the auto restart function in the Advanced tab of the System Control Panel applet.

Apparently my dad was playing BF2, left it loading came back and it was BSODed, restarted and everything got fked up from there on. Would that also do the same effect?
