Had car less than a week - it's already been hit...

Last week I'd bought an Astra, nothing unique but a nice low mileage car in decent shape.

En route to get air con regassed and I noticed it feels like the driver side door is open, but it's not... Long story short, some scumbag has somehow hit the Astra on the front offside panel and door, now the door doesn't sit flush and wind noise makes it feel like the door is open.

Can doors be bent back? I've already enquired about a mobile dent repair but fear the worst anyway - I'd rather not have to get a replacement via breakers if possible!

If it makes you feel any better, within a week of getting our last car a damn deer ran into the side of it. Dented it in a couple of places and scratched it nicely in a few others.

Sucks.

It happens to us all.

Back in 2000 I bought a Subaru Impreza. It was 14 months old, 8k on the clock and mint.

I'd had it 72 hours and whilst waiting at a T-junction a 19 year old driving his mum's car went into the back of it whilst changing a cassette.

The car should have been written off, but they insisted on fixing it - repair bill was 60% of what I paid.

Car came back, boot leaked from that day on, tried to reject the repair, no luck.

Tried to sell it, no-one wanted it due to the accident history. Ended up part-exchanging it.

Oh yeah - 3 months after I had it back, some scumbag broke into it to steal the radio. It was one of those removable face-plate ones. He broke in, realised I had the face-plate with me and took nothing. That was another repair due to him destroying the door skin.

Gorgeous car, but the unluckiest car I have ever owned.

Still at the end of the day, it's just a piece of metal.

Years ago I spun a almost brand new MX-5 in heavy rain coming off a roundabout (no traction control on them back then). Did a 180 and hit the curb, bent the suspension. Looked awesome I was told by a passer by

On the other hand, I bought a new car in February 2019. Whacked it into a wall while parking in September 2023 so a good four and a half years before doing any damage.

Only cost me £120 to have a SMART repair and its 99% better. Almost perfect even.

Back in the day night a used but mint Primera GT. The kind of used car with a suitcase of receipts and manuals and magazines about the car from a real fan. Body work perfect.

First Sunday with it parked in the middle of an empty car park. I mean surrounded by 300 empty sources. Walking back I see a SUV parked beside it, which a family piled into and drove off. Rest of the car park empty.

Yep they doored it. Really awkward dent that wasn't worth fixing but still bothers me. Sold the car years ago.

It blows my mind some people don't care...

Yes they're metal boxes at the end of the day but at some point, they cost thousands, at which point do people stop caring?

If damage is self inflicted it's easier to stomach but because it's someone else, you just think what a total scumbag.

Gutted for you mate, had similar with my wife's car, 1 week old and my neighbour ripped the bumper off trying to reverse park his massive new Merc..... He did par for everything to be fixed but she was broken hearted.

Cars are tools. Whilst my Duster isn’t as shiny as other cars and has gained a few scratches over the years, do my best to look after it and try as hard as possible not to be the cause of damage to anyone else’s vehicle.
