Had enough of firefox...

Hmmm never had an issue with firefox or IE8 before, decided to give chrome a go as of seeing this thread, i'm suitably impressed to the point that ive now uninstalled firefox :D

What makes you think they're using Windows?

Opera is good, it's very innovative and is often the first to bring along features that will appear in other browsers before too long, like Turbo and mouse movements, but after using it for a few months i thought it's interface looked a bit dated and 'chunky', so now i'm using Chromium.

A bit dated ?

Plenty of add ons.

Opera all the way for me.

Chrome is much faster - but you can't save sessions of tabs like Opera.

Though saying that Opera still has some compatability problems. I still can't edit an eBay listing page with it. Nor use Tesco's search function for some reason.

Edit - I've had rubbish problems with Flash and Opera too, though seemingly few others have :p :(

I always had that and couldn't work out why, missing search function, in Firefox anyway and as of today when I logged in and forgot to do it on IE< the search function was there and not oddly missing.

Still can't quite work out why that one thing was missing but everyone else worked fine.

I really don't know why I've stuck with Firefox, in its early days it crashed frequently, memory leaked like a mother and was generally a pain, but tabbed browsing over plain old IE6 or so back then was a no brainer.

It still crashes on me way to often and has too many little quirks like the Tesco search box, plenty of other sites don't work quite right.

Time to try Chrome me thinks, though to be honest, IE since it got tabs ages ago, I really don't have an issue with it.

i'm still loving firefox. i've never had any real issues with it. sometimes i have task manager open for other reasons and see it's using 100mb with just one or 2 tabs open which does seem a little bit excessive. but with 4gb to play with and no noticeable side effects, i think i can cope.

and that transparent opera abortion a few posts above is just foul. :(

Switched from FF a few months ago, had issues with it and mem usage. Do miss the little things about FF like it saves your tabs when you close it.

Not half as foul as FF ;)

Seems to be a memory leak in Firefox 3.6, running two tabs and well over 500MB memory usage. Rolled back to 3.5 and problem vanishes, will probably just make the permanent move to Chrome.

Firefox has boosted their browsing speed by a hell of a lot now. It's actually faster than Chrome if you compare both current release packages.

The problem most people have with Firefox is the junk stored in their profiles and the extensions lagging things. So they install a fresh copy of Chrome and of course it's going to be faster.

Reinstall your OS, install both and then tell me which one is faster.

Not sure where you get that idea from, I've carried out extensive testing on all browsers including beta versions and Chrome is faster in 99% of cases and our customer feedback confirms this. I work for a web-based SaaS company so performance is very important to us and we always recommend Chrome.

There have been a number of Firefox bugs of late, most recently one linked to checkboxes that have caused us all sorts of headaches. The main reason I still use it is for the plugins, especially Firebug which is a god send for finding bugs in our code!

Three questions:
(a) when did you carry out these tests?
(b) did you try both browsers on a completely fresh instillation of the OS?
(c) did you have any add-ons (aka extensions) installed on firefox when testing?

I can also testify to this from personal experience, I've definitely seen a faster browser experience from firefox but only in the last few releases. That's a key point btw, it's only of recent that firefox has gained speed over chrome.

There's also a LifeHacker article to back that up:
http://lifehacker.com/5499959/which-browser-should-i-use-firefox-or-chrome

I'm new to the checkbox error, so if your company requires the use of that then I can understand why Chrome would be your best bet. However, as far as general browsing goes it's firefox that runs faster between the two... for the time being.

Why do people hate IE8?

Simple. It's because it's made by Microsoft. Loving Apple stuff is cool at the moment (style over substance imho) and hating MS has always been cool for people of the internet.

I find IE8 to be excellent. Never had a problem nor crash with it both in work and at home. I've used firefox and admit that some of the addons are very good, however they can cause instability in the browser.

It's all about personal choice there are a lot more browsers out there than have been mentioned in this thread.

must admit im a firefox lovery but lately it does just hang up and freeze then sort itself out I dont understand why :(

The only time it freezes for me is when a download completes and the file is presumably being scanned by NOD32. It's particularly noticeable in many video encoding tools, where you often have lots of .exes in a .zip or .rar file.

Other than that, I had a crash a few days ago, which was my first in months.
