Had to happen - Atom clone...

Doesn't look like an atom to me - looks far better :) Now just match the performance of an atom :)

that's the aim, long as I keep the weight right down it should be achievable, I can pick my 156hp engine+gearbox up and walk around with it ;)

What engine will you be using? :)

I've got an engine from a 1100cc gsx-r ready to go in 13,000rpm bring it on

Arnt they rather torquless?

Also whats your BHP per ton goal gonna be? :)

You don't need much torque in something that weighs slightly less than an empty crisp packet ;)

'Zetec' performance suggests Ford parts though :( Hardly going to be a noble I don't think!
rofl :) Noble uses FORD ENGINES too :D

and no don't see any of them as "clones". They are "in the style of" for sure.

I think it's stupid designing a spaceframe with curved tubes. It might look nice, but it is pointlessly adding weight as you have to make to tubes much larger to be able to take compressive forces without failing, or tensile forces without lengthening. If you are designing a spaceframe chassis for minimum weight and maximum strength, (structural)curved tubes have no business being involved.

there's always one who thinks they know best
yes a pure spaceframe chassis would have zero curved tubes in, as it's against the philosophy, but it would also look boring as heck.

There always one that has to criticise someone opinion, even if it is correct

Who cares about looks for a track car? Performance should be the overiding factor in chassis design for competition cars.

where did I state it was a track car? It's a personal project - I wanted something exotic looking, pretty fast and i've only got a few thousand pounds to do it.

Oh and I've stipulated it has to have curved tubes.

Happy now? Wish people weren't always intent on getting one up on others...

Cloudy, I remember the first time you posted about your "project" and I seem to remember you had a good percentage of the chassis done (almost up to rolling stage IIRC), how much of that design have you been able to maintain now you have "re-designed" its looks?

almost all of it has been retained :) just had to cut the old roof + cage off and redo the rear section, so it wasn't a start from scratch job...

So effectively you've designed most of the car based on stress simulations or whatever, but then just copied the curved tube (the main design feature) straight from the Atom really, because you didnt really come up with that yourself now did you ;)

This was during my designs for the open top version - it took several retries before I settled on a design i liked with STRAIGHT tubes, I then tried a spline for interests sake on the 3d model - and liked it.

Is that a GSXR1100 motor you will be using? if so that will make a cracking motor for a light car. plenty or torque for a bike engine, and if it weighs that little it wont need it anyway! Bullit proof and very tuneable as well!

FYI I am not trying to get one up on you. What I stated was simply my opinion on the use of curved tubes, and was posted in response to the first post linking to the MEV design, I hadn't even seen your car when I posted.
