HAF 932 case, where to put extra fan ?

well I put the 120mm fan down on the very bottom of the HAF932 case which has factory drilled holes for the purpose, but you know what, I actually think the tempreature of my northbridge has got a little warmer which I find unbelievable, hmmmm. (blowing cool air in)

Has anyone got any ideas ?

p.s
I am not into watercooling as I think its a bit of a major job and I would also Imagine it wont help the northbridge on the msi x58 platinum motherboard, maybe someone will proove me wrong though ?

p.p.s
got a funny feeling I will just need to take off my filters :(

One of the reasons I gave up on the Haf case (main reason was got bored looking at it !) was the fact that I was having to clean it out at least once every couple of weeks :(
I looked at fitting filters but never did anything (thoughts were that they might well increase temperatures - although if I could have sourced coolermaster 'official' filters ???)

Did notice that changing the room flooring from carpet to hard reduced the need to clean as often!

On northbrige temps. did find that , as recomended from someone on these forums, taking apart and re-installing with a good quality thermal paste (mx3 - non conductive etc was the one I used :) )did drop the bridge's temps by a few degrees:)

yea mate, I had to do that ages ago when I bought this board brand new at the time, it had those daft push in pins holding the northbridge copper cooler heatsink in place and the pins just were not strong enough, very very bad quality and design with MSi, so I took the pc down the local shop and see if they could somehow bolt it down and they done just that, applied new paste, bolted the northbridge down very tightly and hey presto ! my NB temps fell from 120c to 60c, but since fitting these DEMCiflex magnetic filters my NB temps have went up approx 10 to 15degrees to about 70-75c, which is still well within the msi/intel limits of 100'odd's but still I hate to see things getting hotter at all.

I have to admit though, the DEMCiflex filters are meant to be the worlds best filters and are used in operating thearters and things like that worlwide, so I guess they are the worlds best, but they still make the heat go up which is a bummer :(, but its amazing how spotlessly clean the inside of the pc is now that I am using them, I mean spotless, excellent, but warmer :(

Just cant understand why that extra fan I fitted has not helped or has infact possibly made the northbridge a bit warmer, hmmmmm, strange ?

Am guessing a little , but believe that the introduction of the new fan adversly affected the air flow you had - a spot of more is less?

Yea, i am thinking its possibly not allowing the big side of the case fan to blow as much air onto the northbridge.

i was reading that theres very small little fans that fit directly onto northbridge heatsinks but i cannot find one for my particular motherboard/northbridge/heatsink (msi x58 platinum).

If anyone knows of one please post up and tell me and I will buy it in two seconds man. thanks.;)

If you have no joy with the 'actual' northbridge fan you could try the antec spot fan - link below

Have never used one so no idea if any good although comments, that I've read, made by users have been generally positive.

yea I have been lookin at one of those but not sure how I would attach it in this case ?

plus the fact that my spare 3 pin sys fan connector on my motherboard has lost power, so I need to connect the fan directly to the 4 pin molex connector om my psu, i beleive the spot fan only has a 3 pin connector ?

What would I buy to connect the 3 pin to the psu ? what adaptor etc ? or is there even an adaptor that allows you to piggy back 2 x 3pin fan connectors together into one socket ? your advice or links would be much appreciated as would anyones that can help please.

my psu is this one here >>> http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=2532

Have a look in Cables and its sub-division Power. I believe you will find what you are looking for there.
Sorry - cannot help on how the fan is fitted - do not own.

If i were you i'd move your 6990 down, get a spot cooler direct it at your NB, get a rear exhaust fan too to put at the bottom of the case. ;)

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SY-000-GE

would the other lower pci-e slot handle the 6990, I dunno ? i thought it was meant to be in the top one ? Its an msi x58 platinum motherboard.

i dont have room for another rear exhaust fan to put at bottom/rear as thats where the psu is, my rear exhaust fan is like half way up the case, I was always of the understanding that the heat would always be higher up anyway and thats the reason why you would want any exhaust fan higher than lower ?

Did the spot fan do the job?

Yea mate, I thought I posted back, sorry I forgot, yea the spot fan is excellent, knocked about 25 degrees off my northbridge straight away :)

Only thing is though is that I had to move the graphics card down to the lower slot to allow me to get the spot fan right in close to the northbridge on the msi x58 platinum, and I am not quite sure if the lower slot will effect its performance at all, will it mate ?

Does you or anyone else know please ?

this is the link to the motherboard manual here >>>

http://uk.msi.com/product/mb/X58-Platinum.html#?div=Manual

It actually says if only using one graphics to use the top pci-e slot, but it doesnt go on to mention why you wouldnt use the bottom slot, I mean its a crossfire ready board, you know what I mean ? And I have emailed MSi but they are hopeless !! :(
