Haggling on the High Street

Boyfriend does this all the time in retail shops, it usually goes along the lines of:

'Excuse me, how much is this?'

'Oh it's this much sir'

'Okay...and how much is it if I smile at you nicely?'

There's times when he gets me to look online with my phone to see how much something is, then makes me show the shop assistants if it's cheaper. Generally, he does get the price down, but good god it can be embarrassing sometimes

Sounds like something I should try with my girlfriend. I would have to give her my phone though, and she'd be mortified too.

There's haggling and then there's depriving women in poverty of hard earned cash

After all that haggling she was asking me to take more, 3 of my friends got ones for the same price and then she was asking if we wanted 2 each. I went back again and she remembered me and would do them for 45RMB each, so I suspect she was still making a profit Telling me to buy them as gifts for my friends etc. Haggling in markets is lots of fun, but I can't believe the amount of things I ended up buying.

I do haggle in independent shops and only try to haggle in larger shops if its a big purchase.

This in a nutshell, Big ticket items like white goods you can still haggle in places like comet and currys

Biggest win - 40% off engagement ring (saved ~1 months salary!).

Biggest lose - haggling with honeymoon planner, then going to Thomsons when he refused to beat their price....only for room to come back unavailable through Thomsons, when the other dude had confirmed availability through his company. By the time Thomsons told me about the unavailability I'd already burnt my bridges with the planner, and last night I had to fork out ~£1k extra to get something available

I got 5 quid off a sky remote in the high street catalogue shop by haggling beat that...

I only had 15 quid on me and said take it or leave it the woman laughed called her boss over he laughed and they rang it up.

haha bit embarassing but like the OP I was bored and hate shopping (apart from at my PC)

I simply don't have the balls to try it. Might suck it up and give it a go sometime though.
