Half Life 2 - Orange Box

Hi all,

I already own Half-Life 2 (but not any of the expansions) and I am going to purchase the orange box. Can I get a refund for the fact that I already own HL2? If not then fine as I feel the other items included are well worth its current price!

Also, do I have to buy this thorugh steam or is it just as recommended to buy it in the stores?

Orange box can be bought for under £20 in stores. I'm not sure on the price from steam.

You can't sell or get a refund for the original HL2, I am in the same boat as you there. But like you said, OB is worth it for the 2 episodes.

i believe you can 'gift' the copy of HL2 that comes in the OB to someone who doesn't already have it

Yep you can, but the OP has that. They want the episodes.

Yeah so exactly he can 'gift' HL2 because he already has it, the episodes are part of the OB. It's not a refund but you can give a free game to someone.

The gift idea won me a couple of friends at uni, i owned HL2 + Ep1, gave HL2 to one guy and Ep1 to another, got a couple of beers in exchange, loverly.

This is true infact, the guy who i gave Hl2 to now owns the Orange box and passed his HL2 onto another mate and the guy i gave ep1 to has now bought ep2.

Probably the best marketing strategy i've seen in a long time.

Ahh I was under the impression only HL2 and not the episodes could be "gift" sent.

Yeah, I gifted HL2 to my mate and he ended up buying the orange box on 360, plus no one can resist Peggle

How does the "gift" process work? I install from the DVD, Steam picks up that I already have HL2 and then a button appears to send the full game of HL2 to another Steam ID?

that's exactly it. There will be a note to say send as gift. Click on that and off you go.

Yeah, it doesn't get sent to another Steam ID though, it gets sent to an email address which the receiver can then activate the game on their Steam account or download Steam if they don't already have it. You would get two seperate gifts if you already owned both HL2 and EP1.
