That story is so far from news it's made me sad to enter this thread.
Valve didn't release a third game because they knew marginal improvements would dissapoint and they lacked ideas needed to take the franchise a step forward.
Wow sounds like you have some insider knowledge here![]()
I can't really imagine TF3. I mean valve makes lots of money out of TF2. What would they do for TF3. More hats, better graphics?
Uh... where did Episode 3 go?
HL3 has a real risk of doing a Duke Nukem and taking so long it builds up a level of anticipation it will never be able to meet.
Although the cynic in me thinks its nothing but an illusion as Valve cab clearly make far more money from microtransactions and hats and taking a slice of an ever expanding Indy game market. Is there really any need for Valve to make a blockbuster SP game any more? Its a massive risk if its anything less than world changing, so if i were Gabe, I wouldn't bother.
As long as it pleases the masses I guess... Valve used to be legendary but they went down hill since L4D, they've gone mainstream.

The plan to develop the game in episodes was officially cancelled. Episode 1 & 2 were made concurrently and took far too long.
This is very old info you should already know.![]()
As much as I love HL2 and cant wait for HL3, I will be much happier to see new versions of CS, L4D, Portal, TF.
The later will only be possible though after HL3 because they will no doubt all be run off the new engine.
I didn't think Valve had ever 'officially' canned Ep3? Its just the logical assumption everyone has come too, and Valve have simply stopped talking about it.
Unless I missed something?
Shame, as from what I remember from Ep2 there were hints at a Half Life/Portal connection with Aperture Science coming.
