J.J. Abrams and Gabe Newell have just revealed on stage at the DICE 2013 Summit that the two are discussing plans to collaborate on film and game in the future. Newell said that the two have been having conversations, and now "we reached the point that we decided to do more than talk." J.J. Abrams then gave us a taste of what the two have been thinking about. Presumably speaking for his production company, Bad Robot, Abrams said on stage that "there's an idea for a game that we'd really like to work with Valve on," and Newell replied, "we're super excited about that and we also want to talk about making movies, either a Portal movie or a Half-Life movie."

Polygon has heard back from J.J. Abrams, and it has sparingly few new details on the collaborations that were teased today. The filmmaker says that plans for a Portal or Half-Life movie are "as real as anything in Hollywood ever gets... which is that we are really talking to Valve, we are going to be bringing on a writer, we have a lot of very interesting ideas."

   I am excite!

Wait was that a pig I just saw fly past my window? It'll never happen and we all know it it'll just be constant "we're working on it"s. However I will be prepared to eat my words if it does.

This won't happen any time soon if it ever does.

Star Trek + Star Wars = how much time do you think Abrams will have?

They shouldn't have said anything really.

Half-Life/Portal Film?

Just read this on Bit-Tech:

JJ Abrams in talks to make a Half-Life/Portal film

Now this is incredibly exciting, after playing Half-Life 1 for the first time a little while back (well, Black Mesa :)), and playing through both Portal 1 & 2 quite a few times, I'm sort of in love with the whole universe they've created. I think the premise is there to create a film; however I'm not sure how they'll work it with the silent protagonist.

Director wise, I don't think they could choose much better than JJ Abrams, as his style I reckon could work really well with the premise.

So, excited or not? Looking forward to seeing Gordon Freeman on the big screen, or worried that he may lose his charm as the Silent Protagonist?

I wish it was the District 9 director instead. Action scenes are awesome in that.

Agreed, even if District 9 was intended to be the Halo Movie.

Either way, a vote for half-life movie from me. I have a feeling a Portal movie would be a bit too silly or qwerky for me.
