thought i'd make this as i've failed to find an official list of the things they changed only things i have noticed so far is

1. the game looks better
2. they removed the weapons hud when changing weapons
3. new achievements

Aww dammit, I redid all the Half life games the other week! Now I've got to go do the first again to get the achievements!

I decided to play half-life 2 again a few weeks ago, got to nova prospekt and remembered how dull that section was so I unistalled it.

I'm due a re-play of HL2. This time I've took the extra plunge and made myself start with HL1 for the first time.

Some of that large update size could be stuff to do with the Mac compatibility that has been added today?

edit:

  • Added support for Mac
  • Added Steam Cloud support for save games
  • Added new achievements
  • Improved graphical effects

The most immediate effect I've noticed is the soft shadowed flashlight from EP2 has been backported. Which is nice.

In the opening area there's a newspaper sitting on one of the benches with the alphanumeric code ep3101010 printed on it.

Obvious reference to the imminent release of Episode 3.

:p

HUD for changing weapons, better gamepad support. Graphics are much better, bloom effect option added. Also noticed MSAA up to 16 in the options.

Seems gamepad users get better auto aim, not so good for hardcore HL2 players but for the more casual player - thumbs up..

achievements added, and this is a what - 4 - 5 year old game now? Gotta hand it to the boys over at valve... .They don't forget about their products...

I can see why PC gamers love them so much... HL2 was already an exceptional game, but to update it so late into its life... No longer Half Life 2, more like Full of Life take 2..!!

I say - if you've not got HL2, buy it now, its on sale 30% off...

Doesn't seem to be that much different atm, then again I haven't played it tonight for very long. Not running quite so smooth as before.

Did you go into options and select mutli thread? I noticed it ran a little jerky till I turned this on and also dropped MSAA x16 to x8, didn't make much difference to how it looked, just solved the jerky feel when turning around...

TBH, I think it looked a lot better. But then I only played the game a few weeks back, so remembered how it looked before the update. The water, textures etc are much improved..

I had everything set to the maximum and yes, I selected multi-core enabled. Some fps were extremely high but I also noticed the occasional plummet in frames as well. Runs well, just not quite as good as previously experienced. I also opted for bloom but no blur, can't stand that in games. :) The AA was at x2. Will have a more thorough tinker tomorrow night.

I'll look forward to giving it a proper play for an hour or two, will look out for the water and other textures. :)

currently playing through all the hl2's with the latest cinematic mod (at ep2 now) and i refuse to allow these updates through for fear of them borking the install :D
