While i thought HL2 was pretty decent when it came out i was disappointed with it and the following episodes, the great thing about HL1 for me was that you were in this huge underground science base, HL2 just felt different and lost its magic, it's not a bad game but it's not as fun as HL1, no scientists and their funny comments, no labs or equipment, no silly aliens running around, not as many fun weapons to play with etc. :(

I thought the same, but the fact it gave me horrendous motion sickness didnt win it any brownie points for me.

That didn't affect me luckily.

Was just wondering but does anyone know why they went with a depressing police state/1984 style game?

Well the entire game was meant to be set quite a few years after the events of Black Mesa, and the dystopian world was because humans were being enslaved by a new breed of alien race…. Can’t say anymore, some haven’t played it, don’t want to spoil the story.

I felt the game worked quite well, and was a welcome change, it was a sequel that didn’t follow the older stories too much but kept elements to remind you that this was in fact acts from the first events that created the events played out before you..

The game is addictive and for its time was state of the art in terms of graphics, pace and puzzle solving… the weapons weren’t as good as the first half life, but it lost none of the magic from the first due to this.

The root kanal level was in fact not boring, and the hovercraft sections, even though a bit long were fantastic and copied many times since in other games….

Half Life 2 is a game that will be around for a long time, and its testament to how popular the game is, when a 6 year old game gets a 500MB patch to increase its playability graphics and generally bring the game up to date as best possible.

I think they have realised that the source engine is long in the tooth and are looking at a new engine/heavy updating the existing source engine beyond the orange box.

People are gonna be like WTF if they release HL3/EP3 on the L4D source engine version.

Yes, I see a few changes here and there, one or two nice graphical additions but probably not enough to make me continue past the early stages. Although I liked the game it was never a top 10 all time title for me.

Edit : Maybe worth carrying on to Ravenholme..:)

Excellent, always wanted HL2 achievements. Going to play through them all again..

Hopefully CSS beta will be done soon so can play that updated.

My Half-Life games have just started updating again after the updates a few days ago. I Haven't played them since the updates but have seen reports of bugs so maybe these are patches?

Yeah theres been a few updates to them all. Which unsurpisingly since half the planet owns at least 1 of the Half Life 2 series, the steam servers are seriously overloaded and now i can't download Alien Breed ><

Oh and steam keeps crashing which only adds to the joy.
