Half SSD speeds, what did I do wrong?

Hi,

I have the following -

Corsair GT 120GB
Asrock Extreme3 970

And I have just realised that I am only getting 250MB Read/Write speeds when it should be a lot closer to 500MB, so I have a feeling I haven't selected the right option in my BIOS or something. It is set to AHCI and is using SATA3 ports on my motherboard with 6GBs cables. What's made them only work at half speed?

Cheers.

System has been running the SSD since Christmas. Everything is very speedy, but realised it could be quicker!

I think that's the fastest speeds you'll see,not sure what controllers they use on amd boards but if they use marvell ones they are barely faster than sata2 speed

only intel sata3 ports are capable of the true ssd rated speeds

I think I have heard/seen that somewhere else before which is quite annoying. But it still performs super quick, and shall be changing out in June for Haswell anyway.

I'll see if I can tweak anything, if not it's not a problem. Do you have a decent HDD testing software to recommend? Health checking, speeds etc etc?

yeah it sucks tbh,but sata2 speeds are still fast

ssdlife

atto

as ssd

are pretty good info/benchmarking software, atto is great for sandforce drives like the gt

Im getting 510 read and 260 wright on my AMD board ??

idk if the ops board is an older amd board or a newish one? theres two types of marvell controller (on intel boards anyway)

the early type is very poor, around the same or slightly faster than sata 2 speeds, the newer marvell controller is pretty much up with intel sata 3 speeds

around 500/read/write

but I havn't a clue with amd boards

Right that seems to be okay, could it have just been the bench marking tool I was using? As it gave me a similar result when I first got the drive, but atto gives me those results?

yeah that's more like it,some benchmarks show compressable or non compressable results

and favours marvell controlled over sandforce,i forget which but sandforce is better at compressable data

also what fw are you running? theres is a newish fw out for that drive and improves write speeds to 500+

I have the same drive as you fw 5.03

I have 5.03 as well, might give it another benchmark and see if the write speeds change. 470MB is not bad!

100% health for mine as well :D, thanks for the heads up on the tools to use.
