hi

have seen that the advance tool kits are half price qt halfords atm
was thinking of the 200 piece set but seeing that i hardly use spanner or sockets it will be an overkill

what set does anyone recommend for home use?

Nothing wrong with the big Halfords sets, mine has lasted me a good 10 or so years so far, and is still going strong.

thanks was more about which set to go for?
150, 175 or 200 piece set

If you can, go for the 200 piece set.

I manage to obtain the 200 piece set a few months back when it was £135. At the time I thought it was just an impulse buy and would never use it.

Few months later I seem to be using the toolkit quite often and glad I have purchased it.

I got the 200 set when it was on offer last, I think around £90 odd quid which made it a real bargain! Hasn't let me down through various car hobs and a house move!

What do you have, what do you need and which items from the toolkit will you use?

If you will/may use all the tools, then the biggest set will be the cheapest way to get all the tools, but if you'll only use a select few, it may be sensible to just buy the separate sets of what you will use.

If you hardly use spanners or sockets, why are you looking at a spanner and socket set? Or do you just want something for odd jobs? Not the greatest quality, but if all you want to do is eg undo battery terminals and undo a couple of bolts here and there, something like the below sets might be OK until you know what you want?

Get the 200. There is nothing worse than being halfway through a ob and finding you are missing tools, especially if you are working on the car that you need to go fetch said tools. Nothing. Not even ebola.

Much to my surprise, halfords tools have been one of the most consistent tools in my garage. And even if something breaks, can get a new one no questions asked. Love it

Draper expert is good too, in case you need other options. I use one of their socket sets at work and in 18 months of fairly heavy abuse it hasn't skipped a beat.

I have the 170 and it's great. They replace broken bits without question too (managed to snap a T55 bit removing a steering wheel).

Just think the one day you need a spanner or something else at least it will be there, Never overkill where DIY tooling is concerned
:)

I have the 200 set which is serving me well but I have found the screwdriver bits in the red box are made of chocolate - the bits I have used have rounded off too easily.
