Halfords Advanced Professional 150 Piece Socket & Ratchet Spanner Set

Good as it is beware there are some imperial sized socket arrays in there which you'll never use. (unless you're into restoration of classic Brit bikes etc)...

Yeah this is what is putting me off, great deal but might head down to see how much of it is imperial, everything on my car and bike is Metric and hate having to torque anything using imperial if I cant avoid it.

As long as you keep the receipt (which of course will fade and be illegible thus meaning they don't replace the tool which is stamped with their branding)

Tools good, guarantee take with a pinch of salt ime.

They will exchange without receipt with no issues.

Have a look at the add it shows you.

I don't want to knock the deal too heavily. It is a good deal. Just that of the set contents I think the imperial sockets make up a fair percentage, and they are by and large, useless today. So whether 70 quid or 170 quid that content is no good. Be aware that it may prove fruitful to check out fully metric set offers too and see how they stack up. ;)

Halfords currently offering deals across the board it would appear. Out of this five offers the most expensive is the biggest drive of 1/2 inch (55 piece set) at 79.99. Actually not bad and 100% useful. 1/2 inch drive is pretty defacto in any workshop being able to take the most torque. 3/8 and certainly 1/4 drives can seem fragile and are more often replaced due to abuse... Bigger drive sizes out there but then you're getting into commercial territory really.

However, I do recommend the smaller drives if you're extending an already half decent home kit and considering long/deep sockets 6mm - 12mm range. Good in times when a std 1/2 won't fit into smaller access etc. My 'ideal' set would be 1/4 drive ranging 6mm to 12mm std and deep sockets. 3/8 drive ranging 8mm to 16mm. 1/2 drive 8mm to 22mm. That to me represents a good useable kit and sets that fulfill a part of that kind of setup is probably decent at almost any price because they are going to be useful.

The OP set on offer is a great starter kit in my opinion and it definately fair to say that quality has come a long way in the last twenty years and I think probably gone are the old Halfords jokes about tool standards :)

The ones form 2000-2005 were better, ever since they not been as good.
You used to get the full set of 8mm-19mm spanners (now missing a few) and a full set of 10-19mm deep sockets for the 1/2 ratchet now you only get a few but there all for the 1/4 ratchet. Still good sets mind you (i have 2 from 2011) but had to get the extras that you use to get which cost probably another £50 or so off amazon.

No matey. One sec. I might have trust figured out. Saw no messages but I was on an old outdated email address. Should be sorted now. Sorry for that I hope not too inconvenient.

Yep, although a good price, like you i feel a large part of this kit would see little or no use. The biggest issue i have though is 12 point sockets, rounded off far to many nuts and bolts in the past.
I did come across the kit below though, yes it is slightly dearer, but it is completely metric and all the sockets are 6 point.
