Popped into the local halfords today, needed oil & filter for a megane diesel. Not too much to expect is it, pick it up, pay for it, leave.

Picked up the filter and had a look at the oil shelf, they've got 10w40 magnatec deisel oil for £23.99, ideal.

Get to the checkout, hand over my trade card and the bits. Bill comes to £30. Huh? Recipt shows that i've paid £23.99 for the oil. I query this and she tell me that's the right price and that the oil is already on offer.

The checkout girl and myself walk back to the shelf and she points to a 4" square yellow card at the other end of the shelf from the price tag of £23.99 which states that the oil should be £27.99 and is currently on offer.

Okay, my mistake, i assumed the price on the shelf was the regular price and i'd get discount from that. I tell the girl i'd like to exchange the oil for something more "economically viable" (not my car, not my money), okay she says, just bring it down to the counter when you've got the oil you want.

I get back to the checkout before she does, she scans the new oil and tells me that this will cost more than the last stuff. wtf? Is this stuff on offer too?

And this is the point where i remembered why i don't usually buy from halfords. "oh, did you want the trade discount on this oil as well?" :(

Where do they find these people?

The staff in my local one are totally dire too. That's Basildon. They have no clue and are plain rude, I'm never going to shop there again.

I never understand why people buy oil filters from Halfords, is it worth the £1-2 saved over an OEM one?

I use the champion stuff they sell, just looking inside the unsupported halfords filters worries me, nothing to keep the paper from collapsing in on itself.

what do you expect? its people with no real interest in the products that they are selling.
cheap staff to do general sales work.

I go to Halford's and ask for stuff that doesn't exist, then just laugh at them trying to find it :p

The amusing thing is that at least they are getting paid for it, while you're stood around like a lemon for nothing. Does it get exciting when they return and say "No sorry we don't have those" or something. :D

All the staff in my local are really attractive college/uni girls.

Except for the Bikehut section, where there are young blokes. And a young transexual ex-girl.

Never had problems with service. The only time I had an issue with Halfords was when the hose to my pressure washer burst, but they simply changed it for a longer one FOC.

I went in today for a couple of brake pipe spanners. The lad opened the cabinet and went 'er, what is it?'

I went to tell him again but thought better of it and just pointed at them :D

And the "trade discount" has been completely nuked so that its nowhere near what it was 2-3 years ago when it first came out.

Oil you might as well not bother with it as you can buy it for cheaper than the "trade" price from the supermarket.

Even decent bulbs now have gone right up, I was using the super duper 90% brighter ones that are £20 a go, they were £7, but last time I bought some they were £15 each on trade...
