Halfords website

Would it have been possible for someone else to register the domain name in the time that they made the **** up?

If so, that could have been interesting :D

I used to work for the company that looks after Halfords' DNS and their servers, bunch of cowboys.

I think network solutions are wise to that, they won't sell it on immediately.

They aren't allowed to sell it on immediately.
There are numerous periods of time after expiry when a domain can still be renewed.

These ideas of a domain expiring and somebody immediately snapping it up....well simply put, it cannot happen.

Correct, Network Solutions have separate grace and redemption periods; it would appear in this case the grace period lasted about a week (in which Halfords would have been able to renew the domain for a standard renewal fee) before it went into the redemption period today (all WHOIS data wiped, Halfords have to pay an additional fee to redeem the domain).

More to the point, why are you using Halfords? Ridiculously overpriced.

There are various things they can be cheaper for at certain times. They were even cheaper than Opie Oils when I did an oil change last year. Also their professional range of tools are excellent.

You're looking at the whois details for the halfords.co.uk domain name, this thread is about halfords.com (which the .co.uk address redirects to, hence is suffering the same problem).

The .com expired on 14th January, their registrar has retained it for renewals or backorders, and presumably after a week of attempting to contact Halfords to renew the name, have now taken ownership of the DNS records.

Halfords will get it back, there's no question about that, but in the meantime it's good entertainment and is likely costing them a fair whack in lost sales! :)
Eh? as I said, I looked at both, neither were due for renewal until sept.

halfords.com
Record expires on 14-Jan-2017.
Record created on 14-Jul-1997.

Looks like it's always been renewed on 14th Jan since it was created on that date in 1997 to me.

DNS updating gone wrong... I have tried our local DNS not working, tried google's public DNS servers and it works.

I use them for some car and motorbike consumables, usually when they have good special offers on, 2 for one, that kind of thing. I've also used them for cycling stuff like chains etc. Last year they had a stonking offer on half price Camelbaks which was seriously too good to miss.

The thing with Halfrauds is the convenience I think. Just roll right up to the front door in the retail park and you are there. Most of the other local motoring places near me are a pain to get parked at as they are in the middle of town. Not handy if you just want to nip out for a tub of screenwash or similar.

They've definitely ballsed up somewhere.

People are having different results as DNS records take time to replicate across the internet.

Don't tell me what I did and didn't look at...
I checked both while on the same site, having just checked on a different site obviously the information was wrong, it had different registration and expiry dates, but both renewal dates were sept.
