Hey,

I'm wondering how many people have been tempted to make the change from their previous bank to a Halifax reward account?

My paydate is about to change and its crossing my mind as to wether or not its worth changing from Natwest to Halifax and getting them to change my direct debit dates as part of the process whilst getting £100 out of it.

Any experiances and thoughts on the process? I must admit I would have done it already but the website doesnt currently recognise my property's address as its a new build and speaking to someone at their end that can deal with that issue seems increasingly difficult.
 
i should really upgrade my current account to this. Free 100quid along with an extra fiver a month from Halifax. Dunno why i haven't previously although they seem to bypass that account and try to sell the ultimate reward account in which it costs you 7.50 a month instead!
 
Anyone thinking about switching to Halifax, bare in mind they charge you £1 a day for being WITHIN your overdraft.
 
Bah! T&Cs, the free £100 is only for people coming TO the Halifax from other banks :( I have the original/really old Current Account from 1997 and they are forever trying to get me to upgrade - might see if I can wangle a free £100 and upgrade :D (naff all chance of that though :()

You can do it by going into one of their banks.

I was already with them and moved to a new build where the address didn't exist on their system. In the end I had to use a nearby postcode until it was registered on their system so I could change it.
 
I've recently done this. £100 was credited straight away, just in the process of changing the direct debits over.

Online banking seems pretty good too.
 
my mum has recently change to halifax because of this and she regrets it now!...

They charge you a stupid about per minute for telephone banking, ridiculous over draft fees, terrible paper statements (no break down of costs, just a summary) and the internet banking is like if a kid had made it.

not seen it myself but brother joined them and left again straight away cos of it
 
Been happily using the ultimate reward account for over a year now. Mobile phone insurance, annual travel insurance, AA cover (if I had a car it'd be worth it). I don't have an overdraft so don't pay any fees.

Online banking is normal, just like most other online bankers. Mobile banking is simple and effective.

Does what it says on the tin really.
 
Hmmm, almost seems like a 50/50 split as to wether or not its worth doing. I dont intend on taking out any loans and already have a Mortgage which is with Halifax

I will ponder for longer
 
Not sure where these reports of terrible internet banking are coming from, I've been using it for years and it's excellent.

Everything is very clearly laid out, you can transfer money between your Halifax accounts or to other accounts in a few clicks, the help section is very good if you can't work things out and it almost never goes offline.

I have the 'Ultimate Reward' account and get charged £1 a day for being in my overdraft.

Also, if you are thinking of switching, make sure that your current bank isnt in the same group as Halifax, as apparently this will mean you do not get the reward, altho to be honest, it's not worth the hassle.
 
just got a halifax reward account, i have been with Halifax for over 4 years now and dont see any reason to change from them, i get an extra £5 each month as well and have never been in overdraft.
 
My joint account that the mortgage goes out of is a reward account, am seriously tempted to move my current account that is with Santander across as well.

Online banking seems fine to me, shows you everything you need (outstanding mortgage, credit card, bank balance etc)
 
The overdraught fees are putting me off, I was looking at getting an overdraught as a small loan and paying it off within a few months, this wouldnt work out with the Halifax account
 
I use it. It's very good - online banking is great, you can see all of your accounts in one view (except for stocks and shares accounts, but that is coming back at the end of the year). International bank transfers are a breeze, and there is no external two-factor auth device; it just calls your mobile to authorise anything new.

I have the Ultimate Reward account, which costs £15 a month (£10 after the reward). For me that more than pays for itself just with the travel insurance and breakdown cover. I haven't had a use for home emergency cover or mobile phone insurance yet.
 
I did exactly this (Natwest Graduate -> Halifax Reward) and it all went smoothly. At the time I got £150 for switching two direct debits, £5 a month and about £30 from signing up via TopCashBack. I never go into overdraft on this account so no problems there (that's what the graduate account is for :p) and the online system is pretty reasonable.
 
Halifax are great for somethings, poor for others in my opinion.

Day to day banking is perfect, quick, reliable, easy. Anything beyond that and well... :(
