Ok so here goes, first off i was having a lot of spoof attacks on my network until i blocked that mac address with no router ip which is the only mac address you can see there, so i blocked that and all of my network attacks went and is gone fully, wish i thought of this earlier.

It was tricking my network thinking it is a local computer.

So without my permission i was getting these alerts below, and fully without my permission or consent because the spoof attacked tricked everything and thought it was legit but wasn't in picture below and allowing all sorts to access the network resources.

This you allowed blah blah, wasn't me in alert in above picture.

Rant over, anyways tell me what you think about not having a router ip heh.

I've worked in software development for many years and security for some of those, so just curious why the hate for Symantec (Norton)?

Back when I used it, it cost quite a lot of money, slowed down the PC a lot and then come time to uninstall then it burrowed it's way into the system quite a bit, although we are talking probably 20 years or so ago.

Not touched it since :)

My reason is due to when it first started showing it’s head, people remember a brand. Caused all sorts of issues and slowed computers down not for the better. Every system I come across had it removed promptly.

At times all of the major anti-virus software have had bad releases, but it does vary over time. Quite a few years back Kaspersky made a change that used an NTFS feature to flag files that was never intended for mass use, and as such it slowed disk performance and the only fix was a reformat and re-install of everything! By the time I realised even my full disk images (3 months) were all affected. Needless to say Kaspersky quietly removed that approach the next year leaving the damage.

Since then I do a basic review of a few security packages each year to decide which to use as I have a lot of PCs. As with the online reviews the top long term vendors all do a reasonable job and overhead for most isn't an issue as it was especially when PCs had less RAM.

I am not a fan of any particular vendor, but I do suggest checking the current release reviews and potentially trying in a virtual machine (easy and free these days) before deciding if you have specific requirements or concerns.

I got rid of norton and installed bit defender, and so far it is better, it managed to tackle what i saw with other firewalls but this one actually blocked the connection.

Not sure why people feel the need to use third party software, Windows Firewall/Defender is perfectly fine. I've been running it for years without any issues at all.

Glad to hear this has been sorted out Dan!

Norton seems to cause a lot of people issues from what I usually hear, same with Mcafee. As long as you do regular scans on your computer, too many problems shouldnt be arising.

I am going to get a bit defender box, because i think the hacker somehow tricks the software firewall.

https://www.bitdefender.co.uk/box/

I am indeed paranoid for a reason, it is like as if my own computer has a mind of it's own.

When i used comodo personal firewall and i tick the box to block ARP protocol requests, i have had the firewall blocking ARP attempts on the windows operating system it's self.

As for thinking that i access dodgy websites, no that was not me but the hacker or something else and thus it got blocked regarding post 10.

At least the software is flagging things up for OP. Sometimes some people just need a little guidance.

Whatever i have makes my pc act stupid i believe it disables protection and thus i am going to get an external firewall router.

Also i think it interferes with whatever firewall software you have and also miss virus infections when you scan for viruses.

It is like this > https://www.forbes.com/sites/daveyw...rojan-disables-windows-defender/#1330bdf66fef

When i sent my pc for a hardware upgrade, i remember having alerts done by a windows security tool saying that i have 2 trojan horses where a 3rd party anti virus app did not detect them, nod32 norton you name it.

Dan.

p.s. the hacker tricks my computer thinking it is me and thus has access to my home network and gets raped like that and thus get reports that i allowed this or i allowed that or i edited the firewall etc, which is not normal or i wanted the pc to access whatever for network resources and thus the computer thinks it is fine when it is not, because something is causing that fully.
