Alright, we're halfway through October and Halloween is coming up.

I need a costume for a few nights out at the end of the month; anyone have suggestions? There were some fantastic member costumes posted on here last year, and I saw absolutely everything in the town centre, including Mario and Luigi, Pacman, and few costumes in bad taste :D

Ideally after something not too restrictive, but unique!

Let this be the thread for Halloween related discussion :)

in b4 halloween is for kids, blah blah.

I'll be in costume. Unfortunately it'll have "Police" written on the back. Should be nice to see all the innocent kids having a nice time.

I'll be turning all the downstairs lights off and unplugging the doorbell.

Bought treats last year and got a load of scummy 12-14 year olds coming around, not dressed up and saying "give us some sweets", can't be arsed with that this year.

Always thought this was a good idea.

I grew up in a college town, and one Halloween our doorbell rang and we opened the door expecting to see trickortreater—but what was in front of our open door—was another door! Like, a full-on wooden door, that had a sign that said “Please knock.” So we did, and the door swung open to reveal a bunch of college dudes dressed as really old grandmothers, curlers in their hair, etc, who proceeded to coo over our “costumes” and tell us we were “such cute trick or treaters!” One even pinched my cheek. Then THEY gave US candy, closed their door, picked it up and walked to the next house. MLIA

Go out or just blast music or don't answer door :p

Obligatory pic of my halloween makeup from 2007 :p

I'll be at home having a Sunday roast whilst the other half is on a plane to Scotland to look at property.

without wanting to sound too old fashioned, i think the whole dressing up and celebrating halloween is a horrible americanism that has no place in this country. however, some of the outfits one see the ladies out in are phenominal, so it's all good :D

The practice of dressing up in costumes and begging door to door for treats on holidays dates back to the Middle Ages and includes Christmas wassailing. Trick-or-treating resembles the late medieval practice of souling, when poor folk would go door to door on Hallowmas (November 1), receiving food in return for prayers for the dead on All Souls Day (November 2). It originated in Ireland and Britain,

The custom of wearing costumes and masks at Halloween goes back to Celtic traditions of attempting to copy the evil spirits or placate them, in Scotland for instance where the dead were impersonated by young men with masked, veiled or blackened faces, dressed in white
