with regards to wanting to play dx10 games, crysis, etc will i need vista at any point??
Yea the graphics suck if it was a new game coming out now. But its about 3 years old 
I recently played it on my 360, I never finished it the first time around, its still got a good story and its ok i guess, not a patch on CE though.

in your last post, basically thats half right. but you really want 2gigs to run a bunch of games now on XP, and those same games also want 2gigs on Vista. but vista DOES NOT NEED MORE MEMORY THAN XP. right now my tweaked XP system has a kernal memory size of 80mb, thats with lots of services and crap turned off. my Vista system next to it is usnig 150mb, so more, but thats not really got anything much turned off, and what was turned off seemed to not reduce that size at all. from what i can tell a pretty much stock install of either OS uses within 30-40mb memory for the kernal, which is nothing and won't affect the need for 1, 2, or 4gigs. everything else in memory is anything you are using or precached stuff which will be booted from memory instantly and has no effect on your memory use.
as for halo 1, it looked like utter pants on PC, i mean, utter tosh. from those screenshots halo 2 looks **** poor compared to current games out, and those other ones, you know, the ones out in the last 3 years.

its not always just about the graphics you know... too many people in this thread are ripping this game, just for the graphics...
