Is this game out yet. Seems people on my friends list are playing yet these hardly being a mention of it in terms of the press.

Also does anyone know if anyone has found a way to play it on XP (Not sure if discussion is allowed so sorry mods if it doesn't).
 
Perhaps you should read the terrible review on Eurogamer.

I was never a fan of this game, I still don't get the excitement over it. True, when the first XBox was launching and footage of Halo was demonstrated I genuinely thought it was good looking and fun. I played it on a friends machine, going through some multiplayer and that was fun for a short while. Why it ever needed extending beyond the first game is beyond me, but I found it pretty boring.

That aside, Halo 2 on the PC appears to be a bit of a joke from that Eurogamer review. And, without having played it I would have assumed this anyway.

You guess correctly. There's no doubt that the game sold stupidly and a sequel would probably follow. Just personally I don't think there was any need for it. I find it pretty standard shooter personally but that's just my view.

True, I don't deny that. Just never really appealed to me as such but like I said earlier at the time I definitely saw it was great technically.

When Halo first came out it did offer a lot of new stuff I thought, just Halo 2 didn't offer much (over the first) and the Arbiter levels were boring.

I didn't even bother finishing Halo 2. :eek: :D
 
Was never a big fan of Halo 1 but was interested to see how Halo 2 was on the PC never having played the xbox version. Think I'll avoid for now since not wanting to upgrade to Vista yet anyhow.
 
I really enjoyed Halo. I played the PC version, as I have never owned a console until a few weeks ago, when I purchased a 360.

It didn't play too well when I got it, so I waited until I next upgraded before I played it properly. Good graphics, good story, overall an enjoyable romp.

Halo 2 I tried to play on a borrowed xbox but couldn’t get on with it. I was looking forward to the PC version but I now have concerns. Why is it so bad? Is it just a bad port? Bad performance? I can't access any reviews from work at the moment, so can anyone tell me why it sucks?

If people don't like it because it is more of the same, I won't be too fussed, as I enjoyed the first and want to continue the story. Graphics don't really bother me as much as they used to, so long as the game is fun to play and the story is vaguely interesting :D
 
Not sure why people are knocking this, I havn't played halo since my Xbox days my god what a difference it is playing on the PC, the quality is superb, obviously its no Crysis, and thats not what it was supposed to be, but im so glad to have it on the PC. Much better everythings smoother and it runs at a constant 60fps everything maxed with 4x MSAA it dosnt go below this :D , the only gripe is the fact It's Vista only big mistake imo, means i have to reboot and load my Vista partition just to play :( . Also Eurogamer seem to be reviewing the game not the actual port, :confused: . We all know what the game is and what it does ffs yet there still moaning about the gameplay :o , This is an excellent port.
 
So is there a review out there which focuses a little on the quality of the port? I don't understand how a game can suddenly suck because it is now playable on a different platform. Although, I realise the reviewers and fan-base will naturally consist off different people.

I've never owned a xbox and thus never played halo2. If eurogamer gave it 9 out of 10 because its an "excellent port" and i forked out the money to buy it but then realised that the gameplay is outdated, i would be quite upset at eurogamer for not reviewing the game itself.

If you want a good port, fair enough, however i'm willing to vouch that the vast majority of people would rather game reviews reviewed the game than the quality of the port. Releasing a game this old with so few updates when game like Half life 2 can be bought for less is insane.
 
I see your point and agree. Although obviously they wouldn’t just review the quality of the port but it is an important factor to consider.
 
Ive played em all and love them to bits. I dont see why people slate Halo 2 - I didnt see anything wrong with it. I personally thought there were parts to the campaign that were equal to, if not better than the original campaign's. Ive got it for Vista too and I love it. Personally I would wait a week or two because there is an update which needs bringing out as it is a little buggy (like all newly released games) and I didnt get my Legend achievement for completing the game on legendary (was a bit annoyed).

Also there arent many multiplayer servers at the moment so it does not represent what the Xbox was like with multiplayer.

But I think gamespot did a review and it got 8 out of 10 or something. Dont listen to the people slating it because in most cases they wont have given it a decent chance.
