HALO 3 Official Thread

I'm still loving the game even with its glitches, I can live with them if needs be for as long as I still find it fun, though I'm sure they will try to sort some of them out with a patch at some point.

I would be fine if I found it fun, but quite honestly I'm not finding it fun at all. It doesnt have the same feel as Halo 2, the maps are boring (except Epitaph, High Ground and Snowbound) and the glitches just add to it and make it worse.

Even if they do patch it they will not be able to make it how I want it because they would need to start over. I know the world doesnt revolve around me so I will either end up finding a new game to play online or go back to Halo 2, they've just completely mucked it up as far as I am concerned. I've tried to adapt to it, but I just cant :(

They didn't even bother to correct the pathetic spawn locations, many time have I spawned with my back to 3 enemies :(

call of duty 4 is the next one to watch out for then mate, judging by the BETA its going to be amazing (possibly a halo beater)

I'm quite surprised you prefer Halo 2 to be honest - the gross overauto-aim and the unbalanced weapons make it a nightmarish game in my opinion. I do have to agree with the maps though, there aren't enough in Halo 3.

Yeah I think it will be, no fustrations and with the right weapon you can kill 3 people in a battle. Halo is all about numbers and picking off 'injured' men.

I couldn't put COD4 down

I know Halo 2 isnt perfect its far from it, but Im just being honest here. I'm just not enjoying Halo 3 Multi-player at all so far, also its not the ammount of maps I'm bothered about its the quality of them as well. It just doesnt feel like Halo to me anymore, I've tried to like it, but I cant see myself playing it for the next how many years...

Halo 2:
Lockout
Ascension
Midship
Ivory Tower
Headlong
Coagulation
Burial Mounds
Zanzibar
Waterworks
Colossus

Halo 2 Mappack:
Sanctuary
Turf
Relic
Terminal
Gemini
Elongation

Halo 3:
Epitaph
Snowbound
Highground
Narrows
Valhalla (thats a strong maybe though :/)

Those are the maps that I really enjoy and I kept the mappacks from Halo 2 separate so the list is even bigger for Halo 2 if you combine them.

People joked about Halo 2.5 but quite honestly I would welcome it. An example of what I would be happy with: (this is from a Halo 2 perspective if Halo 3 didnt exist)
-Replace the SMG with the Halo 3 Assault Rilfe as the default starter
-Get rid of the button glitches + Super Jumps
-Nerf the plasma pistol a tad (which is completely useless now in Halo 3, I have yet to disable a moving vehicle with a plasma pistol either)
-Give the current Halo 2 maps a face life and nothing more! (still not liking Last Resort compared to Zanzibar)
-Add some more maps + Gametypes, the new Halo 3 weapons too (just the weapons though and not the detatchable turrets + equipment)
-Saved Films
-A proper forge and not the gimped version they gave us

I can dream cant I...

The single player I thought they improved immensely and I loved every minute of it and the 4 player Co-op improves it even further, but the multi-player side I cant get to grips with.

NOTE: Its not because I cant play it, since I end up finishing the top of my team almost every game with 25 kills and 10 deaths, its just lost the feeling of what made Halo 2 special to me :(

Just wanted to add a bit more. In Halo 2 it was just so damn satisfying winning a competetive game just by the skin of your teeth, where as in Halo 3 it feels more like a chore (or the impolite version a right pain in the arse :p)

I dont know what it is thats wrong, but Bungie can do nothing (and also wont do anything) that will change it and my complaining about it wont change anything either. So I guess I'm just gonna have to try and find something else to occupy my time with. I'm not giving up on Halo 3 altogether just I wont be on most nights and will probably be on other games until I've finally have had enough of it.

I guess I can try Team Fortress or CoD4, but I can see them getting old quite fast as well, which most of the popular games seem to do around here. I also dont want to be jumping from game to game every month either.

I do agree Halo 2 was far more competitive and 'OH****INGDAMMITYOUREADICK'-oriented when it comes to close wins and losses, but that was only because the playing field enabled even idiots and poor players to come close to players who were actually skilled due in no small part to the auto-aim and bullet magnetism. Halo 3 isn't so bad (it's closer to CE) and proper players actually shine in it.

I sucked at Halo 2 because any average Joe could pick up 2 SMGs and spray & pray against me. In Halo 3 people have to sweat to touch me. That's why I prefer Halo 3 even if it does seem less edgy than Halo 2.

Big thanks to Wijja and Captain, finally managed to nail the co op on legendary mode tonight...was fun and really glad we finally finished it...dont think ill be doing legendary anytime soon tho:p.

Now onto some MP action tommorrow night.

TBH I find it the exact opposite :p Anybody can pick up Halo 3 and simply tap me with the Assault Rifle and I fall on the floor dead. Halo 2 I could take on 2 people at the same time and still survive, through my movement around the maps. Halo 2 people would have to work at it to kill me which isnt the case in Halo 3, Its just shoot me with 5 bullets and hit me for the kill.

If people spray and pray with SMG's in Halo 2 they would end up at the bottom of the score board guaranteed. I dont know what Halo 2 you played, but if you go into matchmaking (or even customs) and do that you will find it a whole different story, yes the Americans are still a bunch of asses, but it comes with the territory.

Also I would rather have my sniper bullets hit their target and kill them rather then go straight through them like in Halo 3* just because it didnt happen on the hosts Xbox :/ I mean what else can I do besides shoot them in the face? Just to have the Host deny me the kill because it didnt happen quick enough on his Xbox. Sorry, but I cant leave it down to luck, everything is just so inconsistant and random its not even funny.

*I've even got a film to show how ridiculous it is. Its not made by me but it proves my point.

Anyway I said I would stop moaning and ranting because Im sure everyone is fed up of listening to it. We both have our opinions about it so lets leave it at that :)

The auto aim is a little worse in halo 3, I've tested it.

I've noticed this before on various forums, what do people class auto-aim as?

I always thought it was when your cross hair got dragged to the left or right when someone runs across your screen while your trying to fight someone else in the distance.
Then there is the 'bullet magnetism' as KNiVES put it where every shot you fired when the crosshair was red was a direct hit with every bullet.

But yea I agree with Kreeeee its something aweful in Halo 3 (when compared to Halo 2) where I miss a good few of my grenades just because my screen gets dragged around when I dont want it to.

You have the same definitions as me. Bullet magnetism is vital in console FPS because of the lack of precision with a pad.

To see just how ridiculous the auto aim is grab a shotgun and try to side-strafe past someone in a straight line, you turn 45 degrees without ever touching the right thumbstick! That combined with the game dragging your cross-hair to whoever is nearest rather than who you're aiming at and I stop having fun.

This effect is not as pronounced in Halo 2, and I laugh at the people who claim Halo 2 is newbie friendly compared to Halo 3.

I must admit, the actual quality of maps in Halo3 is definitely sub-standard.
Especially when you compare it to something like GRAW2 which just has absolute quality maps throughout.

I never actually noticed the auto-aim in Halo 3 when playing online. Perhaps that explains why I'm so bad, I'm constantly adjusting my right stick to aim weapons when I should just be blasting away!:p

After playing some Lone Wolves and other matches I'm starting to see what Kalanium is saying. Melees are so screwed up in the game it's unreal. People win or lose matches based on their luck with melees.
