Later this year, these classic Halo experiences will start to arrive on PC via the Microsoft Store and, for the first time in the series - on Steam. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for us to bring the Halo Universe and Master Chief’s story to a new audience and to offer PC gamers a chance to step into the franchise on the PC platform of their choice.

The Master Chief’s arrival on PC will happen in stages with each title releasing one by one over time - giving the development teams the ability to ensure each one is right, while giving players a chance to jump in right away, rather than having to wait for the entire suite of games to be completed. Our current plan is for this journey to begin with the launch of Halo: Reach – the fictional beginnings of Master Chief’s saga – with the rest of the titles following in chronological order thereafter. Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4 will each be available for individual purchase within MCC as they become available. And each game will evolve and grow over time with community input.

For the team at 343 Industries, the most important and critical element of this project is ensuring that MCC delivers a true “first class” experience on PC. We’re embarking on a journey with our community to build a real PC experience that delivers on PC gamer expectations. The team is passionately committed to ensuring that all the features, bells, and whistles expected in a modern PC title are included with MCC. These features may vary somewhat by title, and we won’t get everything in there all at once – this is a product and an experience that will grow and evolve over time. We are laying the groundwork for PC native features such as excellent mouse and keyboard controls, support for multiple resolutions and aspect ratios, field-of-view sliders, and adjustable framerates, to name but a few. And yes, there will be support for Xbox gamepads and other PC controllers.

Goodness me. We're probably looking at 3 years or more before the six games (Halo Reach, Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4 and Halo 5) are all done and dusted on PC.

Maybe it's not 5 and is ODST instead unless the 6th game is Halo Infinite. I wasn't 100% paying attention. They are giving more details out at SXSW in the coming days.

Sure we may not get the xbox one back catalogue but their intention was to always release first party games post GOW4 to pc.

To be honest, I'd rather have had the rest of the Gears of War games ported across to Steam than Halo but I'm still pleased ANYTHING from Microsoft is coming to Steam. The less I have to use the Windows Store, the better.

Not going to help people buy games from their store, if they allow those games to be released on Steam...

It’s the right way to do things though. Give people the choice of where to buy but make one more attractive than the other. So in other words, the Microsoft store version will support Game Pass and Play Anywhere whereas the Steam version will be a straight forward purchase.

There're so many games Microsoft can port. Number one on my list would be Viva Pinata. I already have the disc but it crashes if you try to play any higher than 1080p60. That needs fixing. Games for Windows Live needs removing from it as well.

News on pricing

The next question we hear a lot is “how much will the MCC PC games cost?” On PC, we’re excited to confirm that each game within MCC will be included with an Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription as they become available. In addition, each title can be purchased individually – Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2 Anniversary, Halo 3, and Halo 4 will be offered at $9.99USD on both the Microsoft Store and Steam while Halo 3: ODST within MCC (with a current scope of Campaign only), will be available for $4.99USD. Players will have flexibility to purchase any or all the games at any point along the way as they become available.

Pre-order is up now for 3rd December launch on Steam.

It's slightly confusing - £6.99 for Reach or £29.99 for the Master Chief Collection. But then on the Reach page, it says it's DLC and requires the base MCC game.

Or you could just play it on Game Pass. :p

Yeah baby cannot believe MS allow us to play this & all the other games for so little money either! About time MS gave something good back to PC gaming why buy from elsewhere its all using the same Xbox Live backend anyway!

I will buy it on Steam eventually, just to be rid of the horrendous Windows download system.

If this is the enhanced version I hate to see the non enhanced version gfx are pretty average overall!!

Did you activate the enhanced version in the settings? It's the only graphical option there is along with field of view. I thought it looked pretty nice in 4K. I only meant to play a quick five minutes but ended up doing a good half hour.
