My computer will not switch on pressing the power button does nothing at all, yes its plugged in I really need to finish some college work on it so if anyone can help me out I shall be most grateful.
Ok so,
Last night, I switched off my computer, as it turned off, it made a loud crackly noise and I could smell burning. In the morning it wouldn't turn on again no matter how much I fiddled with various cables and switches, so I guessed that the PSU was the problem.
I went and bought a nice shiny new one to replace the nasty cheap one that had died, installed it (and made a thread concerning ATX leads about it ) and switched the computer on.
Everything was fine except that the monitor would switch on with the computer but switch off again a few seconds after, and not display anything while it was on. It had done this twice before on the same day that the old PSU died.
I thought maybe I hadn't plugged in the graphics card power lead properly so I reseated the card and made sure it was plugged in. After connecting everything back up the computer just won't do anything, no bad noises, no funny smells, nothing. I've tried using a different power cable but nothing makes a difference.
Any ideas guys? The work I'm doing is super-urgent and needs to be done by tomorrow morning so if I can't get the computer fixed I'm slightly screwed :/
