Chichester?

Really nice place Chi, work will be a bit hard to find in the immediate area though. I would suggest Brighton or Pompey/Southampton for the best chance of an IT job. If you could swing it though, get a job at the Rolls Royce factory which is about 1 mile out of town and built underground...

If you can stomach the commute, work up in London. I commuted from Worthing, which is about the same distance to Canary Wharf for a couple of years - you get used to it! Only problem is it's about £360 per month and you are up at 6am and home at 7pm having done 9-5....

As for schools I am not sure, although the private ones are pretty good!

My missus wants to move down to the Chichester area. I don't mind to live there, but i'm worried about being able to find a suitable job. I'm in IT (software engineer, .NET sql etc.) and was wondering what Portsmouth offers with regards to that, and how easy it is to find a house and all that and what the schools are like (secondary schools)....

I've never been able to find much work IT work in Portsmouth. Most of the decent stuff seems to be in Southampton. You could try getting something at IBM HQ on the outskirts of Portsmouth. Adecco are the agency who deal with contract staff for IBM (by contract I mean you get employed by Adecco and contracted out to IBM). I spent 4 years there before being made redundant and was good fun.

Apart from IBM and Rolls Royce, are there a lot of offices and/or larger companies in that area that may have IT vacancies ?

how are the public schools, primary and secondary?

Hampshire is huge, Im just inside in Farnborough.

The towns and cities vary from nice to not nice so its really hard to answer your question without knowing more about where you will work.

Wichester is VERY nice but I'm afraid you have to qualify to buy a hise here.

i imagine winchester is the kind of place that is nice for 'settling down', but isn't especially interesting for the young uns though.

The young uns don't know where to get it.

By the way Happy Birthday

Yeah, guess that's me in a nut shell. Just hadn't realised. Thanks [goes off to get noose]

Hampshire's quite a big place and has everything from tiny rural villages to big cities so it would be hard to put a general feel on the whole county.

I grew up in Winchester and worked/ran a couple of pubs there. It is really nice but it is also an expensive place to buy property. It can be a little dull but you can get all the entertainment you need in Southamptom/Basingstoke which are both less than half an hopur away.
