Hey fellas.
As much as I'd like to ask the 'manly' men in here not to post something regarding sandpaper and bleach being the only masculine form of handcare, I doubt very much it'll have any impact :)

Anyway, I'm after a moisturiser for my hands, one that is either for the nails aswell, or one specifically just for hands and a seperate one for my nails. I have alopecia ariata, which, for those of you who don't know, is an incureable condition whereby my immune system attacks certain elements present in my hair follicles and nail beds. As mine is so severe, my cuticles are dry, cracked and not very appealing, and my nails are ridged, pocked and prone to splitting/tearing.

I'm looking for something to make them nice, as I have found in the past that moisturising definately makes a difference :) I've stopped biting and I'm filing my nails well to keep them looking as best I can, but I'd like some suggestions please.

Ceiling for the two products is around £25. Suggestions and experiences welcome.

Well below budget, but I've always found Atrixo to be extremely good. Keep some in my desk at work, because I get excema on my hands due to the soap they have in the loos. It's also man friendly. Doesn't smell or have a girly pink tube :)

I have eczema and use a cream called Ungentum M its dear at £6 a tube but there is no substitute for the moisturizing capabilities of this cream. E45 is the next best thing its less greasy but doesn't moisturize anywhere near as good.

I use nivea, or e45 cream, my hands get very dry for some reason in the winter, and all the skin starts cracking so i've got to mosturise them (well when i remember) otherwise my hands just crack up =/. Same happens with my face too :( i just have extraordinarly dry skin. I'm not sure if they'll do for you but i just bought the cheapest stuff i knew was mosturiser and it does me fine.

I'll take a look at the e45 and the butter jobbies then. My hands are very calloused but not too rough. It's the nail beds and finger tips that really bug me.

Cheers :)

I've only just read this now, can some soaps give you excema? That might be why my hands go all horrible, i've never thought of that, but i'd say i was my hands a fair bit (probably more than the average - now i sound paranoid).

Soap can't give you eczema it's someything you have that can be agrrivated by soap or it could just be sensitive skin.

It might be that then yeah, but i never got this a few years ago, and its a pain if im honest especially if i forget to put any on (which is pretty often). It can get quite sore, apart from looking like rhino skin.

Yeah sounds like a skin irritation. I suggest using an unfragranced non-soap cleanser instead. And moisturise (maybe with Diprobase) afterwards :)
