Hey guys.

Just drove past a hand held speed camera on the dual carriageway on the way home. Roads were clear and I was doing about 55 on R plates (45 max in NI).

Was just one motorbike cop.

What are the chances I'll get pulled up on this?

Thanks.

Assuming it is the same as the UK, pretty much none.

EDIT: Wait, hand held speed CAMERA? Or speed gun?

45 limit, you doing 55? Possibly.....

Depends on the Coppers mood and the accuracy of your speedo I'd guess.

I thought for hand held speed guns they pulled you over if your speeding, rather than sending it in the post. This may be wrong though!

Was just a small gun.

Found this on the PSNI's site:

Other speed enforcement devices used by the PSNI
Laser
This device can measure the speed of a vehicle from a distance of one kilometre. It can be handheld or mounted on a tripod. Vehicles detected speeding by this method are immediately stopped by our officers on the roadside.

Radar
This is a hand-held device used to accurately measure a vehicle’s speed. Any vehicle detected speeding with this method is immediately dealt with by our officers.

Vascar
This is an in-car speed measuring computer that records the exact time taken to cover a distance, allowing the average speed to be calculated.

This device is fitted to all our road policing vehicles.

Calibrated Speedometer
The majority of police vehicles are fitted with a calibrated speedometer. This allows officers to measure a vehicle’s speed while in pursuit.

So I'm guessing as it was just one officer with his motorbike, it would have been a laser/radar and so he would have stopped me?

Normally for handheld cameras they wave you over and widen your bumhole on the spot, if that didnt happen then chances are your ok.

If its a van with a camera sticking out they will normally mail you a ticket later so they can stay where they are and rake in the cash

Sounds like it.

If you were doing 55 indicated, you were more likely doing 49/50mph in reality, which he wouldn't have bothered stopping you for.

I think you'll be fine.

Nope they have video cameras to record and print out the images - Loads of biker cops around here do it.

You have probably got away it unless you missed the camera on the tripod as you were speeding along.
