Handheld or Console?

I've been tinkering with the idea of getting a console for light gaming.

I really like the looks of the 360. The trouble is, I'm not at home as much as I used to be, and I'm not sure I'd get the value out of it. I don't have a HDTV either, just a 19' Standard LCD monitor, a 19' CRT Monitor, and a standard 32' widescreen (non HD) TV.

I'm leaning more and more towards a PSP - would come in really handy when I'm in the girlfriends and they're all huddlled around big brother or desperate housewives, or I'm out in the familys house and I need a gaming fix!! Like the idea of being able to watch movies/browse internet on the go too. Hell of a lot cheaper too. But is it really good enough for gaming?

If I get a PSP now, there's nothing stopping me getting a 360 later in the year ;) Or should I just get a 360 now?

ArgHHH :p

I have both and I generally have the Xbox360 on every day, I've not played the PSP since January.

Whilst the PSP does have some good games, nothing really screams of quality for me whereas the 360 has plenty that get me excited.

I respect this guys opinion a lot, he's one of the few people on here who seems genuinly unbiased and I'd take his advice.

Dunno...think theres a bit of a 360 fanboy in there somewhere!

But id deffo go console over handheld, enless you live on a train or summat! My PS3 gets a lot more used than my PSP, n you can imagine the difference in the amount of games availble.

I've seen him flatly point out the 360's shortcomings just as often as the PS3's or Wii's. It just happens that the 360 is the best console to recommend at the moment based on cost, current games line up and near future games line up.

Wouldnt say its the best, but its got a lot going for it.

The thing to seperate it is how much are you at home, and how much traveling time do you have where you can realistically play a handheld console?

The 360 may be the better machine with the better games, but that only matters if you will actually use it.
If, like you say, you are not at yours a lot or do a lot of travelling tbh the PSP actually sounds like the better option.
Only you know how much use you will get out of either system. If you are home a fair amount and will be doing the majority of your gaming in your house/bedroom whatever, then the 360 without a doubt. But if you are never there, then the PSP is the better solution.
I'd say get the PSP just now and see how you go, don't like it you can sell it on. You will probably lose less money selling a PSP on than sellin a 360 on, if you decide you don't like whatever one you bought.

Psp sounds best for your current situation if you are not home much and need to escape the ladies TV. :)

Personally my launch day PSP see's little to no action at all, mainly because I have a PS2 already and there is little that I would want to play on PSP that I cant already get on PS2(this is slowly changing as more stuff trickles out just for the PSP).

Equipped with a big enough memory stick you would also get some good movie playing abilities out of the PSP.

I find that I enjoy the DS a lot more than my PSP, mostly because it offers me something unique and not just mini versions of games I already own. I would say that at the moment there is a wider range of quality titles for the DS and often genres of games you might not like are vastly improved by the control methods of the system (EBA is one example).

Sorry I was talking about home consoles only. My bad :)

Yea, this is what I've been thinking about all day. When I'm at home, I often watch movies, or play away with the monster in my sig. Trouble is, I'm never home at the weekends, and it's that time that I feel like a blast at something while the girls are watching soaps or talking about weddings and babies

No doubt the 360 is an impressive piece of kit, but as you can see below, it's not like I don't have an ultra high quality gaming machine already. And I don't fancy shelling out for a new widescreen monitor/TV.

Long story short, I went down to the local high street store after work with a handfull of gift vouchers.
I was all set to buy a PSP, but the bundles on offer did nothing for me. A choice of PES6, Spidy2, or some carp arcade retro thing. Nah :o I'll wait a bit and see. Cheers for the help folks :)

blatantly need a second hand ps2

although your reason for needing a psp to avoid big brother is very good :p

doesnt sound like you will use a console enough to warrant the price tags of the next gen ones to me
