Handheld Owners

I just flew with Virgin to Orlando with a 2 year old and a 4 year old. Steam Deck fully charged lasted all flight.....but I got to play on it for about 45 minutes :D

Mate its hard work the long flight , my two are well travelled tbh and they have done it several times but you can never switch off so its not like you can chill and watch a movie or get a gaming session. Even though it gets easier i always think i'll get some chill time only on the flight back we do. Tried to get them to nap on the way there in May and they both fell asleep 30mins before we landed :D

Hope you had a good time, its not like its any easier even when you get there its all go orlando tantrums and melt downs is so worth all that money spent

My eldest fell asleep on the way back with 23 minutes left of the flight, when we had to wake him up to get off the plane it was not pretty haha. To be fair they both were good as gold on the flight, my 4 year old was in his element with the seat back entertainment and his tablet and the 2 year old just slept for most of the flight but gaming time was still hard to come by.

We did have an amazing time to be fair, the problem is they just want to go back to "mickey mouse and toy story land". They're going to get a big shock next year when they're in an all inclusive in Tenerife :D

I started the return process this morning but im still in two minds.

Thinking of picking up a better 65w 26800mah power bank that could allow me to get a charge or two or allow me to play whilst plugged in on the long flight.

I mean i have three year old twins so maybe its wishful thinking im gonna get all this free time on the long flight to play games but a man can dream
:D

I'm in 2 minds reading your posts as from what you've said I don't think it is the device for you and you'd be better off with something more gaming focussed with better battery life (though none of the handhelds have amazing battery life for gaming). But personally I find the Go a game changer for all around entertainment use, and potential for general PC use, when travelling. Though I do lug around a mini-keyboard, mouse and UGreen Revodok Pro 1061 with mine.

Now that Halo Strix has come to handhelds i"m really tempted. The problem is all 3 of the devices released so far have different issues for me - gpdwin has too small a screen for my old man eyes, onexplayer has horrible joystick/button placement on the right side and as far as I can tell the ayenio is not released yet and will have an eye watering price. I wish the legion go 2 had gone with halo. I don't have a gaming pc any more other than a 4070 laptop (which is great). But the thought of a handheld that i can use when out and about but Dock at home on TV would be really cool. I do have a steamdeck oled and I would install steam os on any device I grab.

From what I can gather strix halo is double the performance of the legion go 2 but obviously more expensive.

Another option for me would be a mini pc with a discrete gfx card such as the gmtec or minisforum version - still portable but needs a tv and probably much cheaper for similar performance and I could install steam os.

I’ve got the Legion Go S (Z1e, 32GB, SteamOS model) it’s a fantastic handheld and boosts to 5.1Ghz which is faster than my 5800X3D desktop!

32GB RAM really helps for games like BeamNG drive load in.

The Z1E chips at around 30 watt put up a good showing in performance against the 5000 series desktop CPUs which are using quite a bit more power.
Really does come in handy for playing older games/apps that were not as well optimised like PCem for Windows9X emulation

I've recently purchased an Xbox Ally X, and a Legion Go 2 Z2E.

I didn't even think about ergonomics.

The Xbox Ally X is super comfortable and light enough for longer sessions. The sticks and button positions are spot on (for me). But the screen is just a bit small for some types of games, such as call of duty.

The Legion Go 2 has an awesome 8.8 inch OLED panel but the right stick position is bad (for me) and there are extra buttons on the controllers that get in the way and are constantly being pressed when in use. They currently aren't programmed to do anything but nevertheless it feels annoying, and if they were programmed to do things in games I expect I would need to contort my hands so as not to accidentally press stuff.

It is also pretty large and heavy. It does have a useful kick stand though.

It has hall effect sticks and they seem to have super low resistance which amplifies input and just makes games more difficult to control. You do get used to them a bit with use but the position of the right stick for me is just awful.

Both systems work well, but the Xbox Ally X nails it in terms of ergonomics and GUI. Sadly the screen is a bit small but perfectly OK for many games. Because it has 2 USB C ports, I bought an external portable 120hz monitor which improves versatility if I want to game on a bigger screen.

So my main lesson learned is try and get your hands on a few units to see which fit you best.

The Xbox Ally X is a much better fit for me personally, but the screen on the Legion Go 2 is lovely.

There are so many handhelds...I get lost with it all. ATM I have a switch 2 (love it for what it is) and a v good laptop with a 4070 in. Id ideally like a pc handheld just unsure which to get. I want one that will run something like Rust with ease really.

I don't really have a budget tbh.

Depends what you want really - some are better as pure gaming handhelds others have strengths as a general entertainment system, etc.
