Cant find the area fro hand held questions so posted here.

I am after a handhelp device that can do the following

GPS - use with TOM TOM
Wireless - needed for home and work
Takes Cards for ease of transfering data.
Good screen, colours and size.
Ease of use and able to connect to a PC.

Which one would you guys go for with a budget of £400.

TYIA

Asus MyPal A636 £305 has gps built in and very fast lock on speed so no need for an external gps reciever. Or a hp hx4770 because it has a 4" screen which is definatley a good thing when using gps.

O2 Xda exec or similar ... and a bluetooth gps

Or Dell Axim X51v (£280)... and cf or bluetooth gps (£30-50)
I have an Xda IIi, I can thoroughly recommend it! The only thing I could complain about it would be the battery life. I should imagine they have newer models that improve on it but O2's range of Pdas is well worth a look imo.

If you want a nice vga screen you'll have to put up with the battery drain, if you don`t mind sacrificing and having rather poor image quality then you'll get more life out of your battery.

On a 3.5" screen 320x240 is not poor quality, saying that, having a vga screen or not doesn't make the slightest difference to battery life, it's only screen size and backlight that affect power usage, not the number of pixels on the screen.

I have used a VGA and a QVGA screen, both for long periods and the VGA screen is better quality when watching video, looking at images, using the internet etc. But hey thats just my personal experience :)

Yes it's better assuming the source material is vga but qvga isn't poor, it's not something I would use as the main deciding factor.

QVGA does sometimes have an advantage over VGA during GPS use.

When I used TomTom (v5) on my QTek 9000 (VGA) the text on the display is too small to be easily read with a quick glance. On the Mio P350 (cut down version of P550) with it's QVGA display the text is as good as a TTGo300.

Not only that but some pdas struggle rendering vga maps.
