Morning,

I've got to hang a heavy(ish) mirror onto a plasterboard wall, the mirror weights about 15-17kg.

What are the best fixing to ensure I don't rip the bloomin wall down?

I've found spring toggles like these: spring toggles

Alternativly there are hollow wall anchors which i've never seen before: Hollow wall anchor

if it is just a hollow wall then the Wall Anchors are great. I use a setting tool with them, they just work!

Yes it's a hollow wall, are settings tools 100% required? I don't want to buy one just to put in two screws :D

Studs are in the wrong place......stupid new builds :(

I've hung curtains using the simple plasterboard fixings that are like corkscrews - what's the next step up for holding a slightly heavier weight?

edit: Thinking about it, the mirror is lighter than the curtains - I might just use the metal corkscrew fixings.

Generally 4 solid fixings of any type will be fine. Drill smaller holes than fixings to ensure a tight/snug fit for the fixing.

hollow wall anchors. they are superb.

tellys on plasterboard (no problem)

kitchen units on plasteroard (filled will all manner of items - no problem)

echo what others have said, get the tool aswell. saves so much time.

I've got shelving units supported on the hollow wall anchors (definitely get the tool) but pictures up just on the corkscrew plasterboard fittings.

We have a big picture in a glass frame that weighs 20kg or more and that's got 3 of those corkscrews supporting it - from memory I used the heavy duty ones that say they support 40kgs each

I've used some of these (choice depends on plasterboard thickness), with this setting tool and they're rock solid. I'd be confident they'd take that weight on plasterboard if you can use 2-3.

Just be aware that they leave a 'permanent' screw fixing in the plasterboard that you might want to check doesn't show behind the mirror, demo.

Spring Toggles if it's super heavy. Used them throughout my house for most things where a standard plasterboard fixing didn't give me confidence.

You'll need to make a slightly larger hole mind. But they do also give you a little leeway to adjust before fully tightening too :)

I hung an 18Kg mirror on the outside wall on two bolts - about 20cm long each. I would be very concerned attempting todo the same with plasterboard!

I prefer spring toggles too when it comes to plasterboard...very strong.

I've used both the metal helter-skelters like Delvis linked to and the type you linked to in the first post for mirror and light fittings into the plasterboard, and both worked well.

You should be making your fixings into the stud-work and not the plasterboard and if need-be erecting a baton to distribute the weight over multiple vertical pieces of stud-work.
